GI: Cometic Head Gasket for 2.0 FS-DE (turbo etc.)

bump for status.

Well guys...it looks like it finally will be a go!!! We will be meeting with the people from Coometic over the next few days to get them a block and head. In addition, we will be discussing the points that need improvement in the current OEM gasket. This should be a real improvement over the OEM part, especially for the turbo motors.
Soon I should have pricing as well. Looks like it will be in the $90 price range. Remember, this is a real improvement over the stock part.
Also, Cometic is requiring an initial order on our part of 100 gaskets! We want to make this happen. Hopefully, the interest is there?????

Let me know guys!!!!

Take Care,

I'm sure there maybe interest, MAM is awaiting the arrival of their order, one of which will be on my car when its complete in a few months :D

Confused....

Is cometic talking to MP3Racer about designing a totally different gasket from the one that MAM has already ordered or are they going to be the same thing?

Regardless I'll be picking one up for when the stocker that we put in during my engine build is ready for replacement.

OK, I didn't want to rattle anybody's cage however I want to clear up the confusion. For whatever reason, MAM was not able to go through with their "order" with Cometic. Also, Cometic is requiring a large (100 gaskets) minimum order by us to go through with this.

The gasket that we are working on will be much better than any other "custom" gasket currently available including the OEM gasket. It will have the sealing embossments on both sides (unlike the OEM with embossments only on the block side). Also, the coating on the gasket material will be much more pliable than the OEM gasket for better sealing (and allowing more head movement as seen with forced induction).

As soon as I get final pricing I will be doing a one time group buy discount to help get to the 100 gasket minimum.

Any other questions, please fire away. I will try to answer as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Tom

it went from 50 to 100? thats rediculous. when we were getting them made for the cavalier it was 50 minimum. lets be realistic, we have interest but 100? thats just wrong.

Thanks for clearing up the confusion.

I am still in on these. As I understand it this gasket can sit on the shelf for a lengthy period of time and still be good to put in the car right? (a year or two?)

id love one of these, ill never go through the copper ordeal again, im just upset the orders upped to 100, on ANY forum besides mustangs and camaros, 100 orders is alot.

I totally agree with you....100 is quite a few gaskets to try to pre-sell! I still don't have a good answer as to why the number went to 100. I am still trying to get the minimum reduced.

As far as working with MAM on this, I am totally willing to. In fact I have contacted Beau already and he has agreed to take a few. However, that is a long way from 100. I'm willing to do this but I don't want to be stuck with 50 sitting on my shelf.

As for the question regarding letting the gasket sit, I haven't heard of any problems with letting a new gasket sit for a year or two before use but I will check with Cometic to make sure.

Again, thanks for your interest. It will be all of us that makes this happen! Any questions...fire away!

im interested also, I need a head gasket now though. What happens with the copper ones? are they bad for your motor? Also pdh how much are the ARP head studs from MAM going for cuz I need those to?

I'll take one of these whenever they come out & I know a few other people who could probably use one too.
