GI : Big Brake Upgrade

we will be making the hats to suit 4 lug proteges!

the rr-racing 12" kit is $580 + shipping - that just moves the stock calipers out to fit. i have to say i dont like the idea of aluminium relocation brackets - aluminium isnt the strongest material! the 13" kit is $1390 with stainless lines + shipping. uses a 4 pot caliper.

no idea what rotors they use, but i can gaurantee the rotors in this kit are awesome. 100% motorsport worthy. check out www.dba.com.au and look at the info on the 5000 series rotors

So anywhere b/w 580.00 + shipping to 1390.00 + shipping? Wow!! You were right about there being a big window between the two prices. What kind of rotors are these going be? Cross-drilled, slotted or a combo of both? Im about to install Power Slot slotted rotors and if this kit comes out any time soon, then Id rather save the hassle of switching mine out now and just waiting till this kit gets done.

yeah it is a pretty big window, but i dont want to lock into anything at the moment. also, it depends on the exchange rate between australian and the usa.

the rotors will be slotted only. i will never suggest or use x-drilled. i refuse to.

in terms of time, we will have a definate price very soon and will be able to start to take orders by the end of the month if everything goes according to plan.

so what exactly will be included in this kit.....just wondering....thought i read something about have to purchase calipers somewhere else....

because you have a FWD car....which means more break power is required in the front.......rear brakes are basiclly useless.....it would be pointless to have BIG BRAKE kit on all 4 wheels for the P5.....or any protege.....

its pointless on any FWD car......thats y most people that have big brake kit on all tires get laughed at.....cuzz its pointless unless you have AWD......

stupid in my opinion.....waste of money.....

included in the kit - rotor, hat, brake lines, bits that make the caliper fit and work. destructions too ofcourse!

yeah front upgrade only. i personally dont see any reason to upgrade the rears beyond slotted replacement rotors, better brake pads and stainless braided lines.

the reason you upgrade the front brakes is not because of fwd. its because under braking the car's weight transfers over the front wheels (ie the car dipping). therefore there is lots of weight on the front and therefore lots of weight to stop. the rear becomes very light and the rear brakes can only do so much. on average the rear brakes only do 15-20% of the braking in your car. all cars benefit from upgrading the front brakes due to what i just mentioned. only race cars benefit from an upgrade in the rear brakes because they are able to keep the rear on the ground and can even out the brake force so that the rears do 30-35% of the braking. this is another reason why i say if you have drums at the rear, dont worry about changing them. drums are actually quite good for rear brakes as they are very difficult to lock up

ok I was just figuring to make the wheels look more uniform that's all. I understand the theory of weight transfer to the front under braking, no prob.

Thanks!

ok im all for new products but if its gonna be somwhere between 580-1390 IMO this is better http://www.e-racer.com/prod05.htm since u wont have to buy rx7 calipers...

But that big brake kit is made to fit behind stock 16 inch wheels. What about the others that have 17 or 18 inch wheels? Hopefully Twilight's kit will be able to accomodate all of us; not just the ones who have the smaller wheels.

what? any kit that fits 16s will fit bigger rims.. 17s 18s 19s..

The eRacer rotors are slotted/drilled 11.70x0.81", twilight's are slotted 11.61x0.98". Both use 4 pot calipers. Twilight's come with stainless braided lines and eRacer's don't. Twilight's kit uses Mazda calipers, eRacer's comes with Wilwood (Willow knockoff?) calipers. Also Twilight uses a much better looking 2pc rotor, and the hat can be anodised or poweder coated as you wish. I can tell you that the rotor you get with Twilight's kit will top anything offered by eRacer or someone else's kit between $580 to $1390.

Oh, okay. Didin't know that. I just found it kind of odd how they specifically mention stock 16 inch wheels and nothing else. Just making sure that I wasn't going to be left out. Thanks for correcting me.

cable - yep those are the calipers.

fsdet - those are only 0.81" thick rotors! these ones are 1" thick (as explained above).

yeah the reason i designed these to fit behind the stock 16's is because i like the stock 16's and if anyone gets a flat, it's no drama. and like i said, these rotors i'll be using are awesome.

oh also chicaboo. wilwood is the real thing. but note, their calipers do not come with a dust cover and require rebuilds often!

Just to make sure, this kit will work with aftermarket wheels as well, right?
