Getting GT HID's in sport & stereo question

what? do you also think HD television is yucky cuz you can see more details than standard definition?

yupperz, which is why i think this person's project is going to turn out a little more difficult than just getting some aftermarkets. although im sure that there's some wiring already there for it (cuz it seems like that would be more cost effective) i don't know where they would be or what to look for. and also, the op is going to have to put in a set of ballasts anyway, and probably take the bumper off to do so.

it just doesn't seem like as much of a plug-and-play project as it looks like it could be.

btw....op you should also get your aunts tail lights....gt leds FTW

im talking about the color of the bulbs. especially sitting next to my 6k's

8000k is far to high in the spectrum for safe headlights. A much better figure would be in the 4000 - 5000k range. MUCH more effective, and will cause far less glare for you and for the other people on the road near you. IMHO shops selling 8000k lights are putting others at risk of serious harm, causing the user to not see as well at night, and causing far too much glare for oncoming drivers, leading to accidents.

Here is some further info quoted from knowledgable sources

up to 6k.

my 6k are very bright. so i was say the best lumen range is 4-6k.

One question for you: Will the GT led tails swap directly to the sport version or is there a wiring issue involved in that???

Yes direct swap. Unscrew the two bolts, unplug the bulb, pop the light out from the clips, and LED one pops right in, screw bolts down, plug in (wiggle) Lol.

I love the LED tailights and have always wanted them. I would never buy them for $600 or whatever ridiculous price they are from the dealer though.

ive been trying to find Regular 3 GT's at junkyards since its impossible to find Speeds.

but hopefully i will find a reg 3 GT and get some LED tails.

i still find it amazing that Mazda Puts LED tails on the reg. madza 3 eventhough its a GT model but not make LED tails standard on the MS3(sport)

doesnt make sense

Yeah - I wouldn't recommend getting anything above stock rating of 4300K if you want the most useable light. If looks are what you're going for, by all means, go for an HID kit that's higher in Kelvin rating. But you will notice during rainy weather at night, a kit that's higher in K rating will just reflect off the road and provide less light. It's not the K rating that's causing the stock HIDs to look more like halogens - it's the projector unit itself (projector lense, bowl, and cutoff shield). All of the higher end cars that have that purple flicker 4300K bulbs have different projector parts in them - just my $.2.

240ka - I will be selling a Speed3 headlight (driver's side) soon without the bulbs and ballast if you're interested. It's an extra I have laying around.

The mazda3 35W OEM HIDs are *fine* on stock wiring. the mitsubishi ballast pulls well less than 15A peak on cold start, they have limiters which very precisely control the cold start current to around 11A.

aftermarket ballasts are NOT ok on stock wiring.

not sure what you guys are talking about. 6k is just as useable as 4300k. anythingbetween 4300-6k puts out roughly the same lumens

dont need the GT headlights.

the cut off on the sport headlights is very crisp. not blurred one bit

4300k 35w is ~3200lumens
6000k 35w is ~2400lumens

about 25% drop, pretty significant.

the sport cutoff is blurry due to the fresnel lens, with HID burner in the halogen projectors you'll get glare above the cutoff due to the shield extensions, and mad glare to the sides due to the projector bowl designed to focus a halogen bulb. the pattern from a d2s bulb is significantly different and requires a different projector bowl to focus it properly. without the proper bowl you'll get wasted light and glare.

some people dont like the blurry stock lens and either get it cleared or replace with an evo lens for crisp and sharp cutoff.

the best results come from an s2k or tsx retrofit. oem HIDs are not great but throwing d2s bulbs into the h7 projectors is downright ghetto.

ill will take pics tonight for those who swear the sport cut off is blurry.

and im running 55watt ballast with my 6ks so.

6ks are perfectly fine. color is white with a slight blue hue and plenty bright. not too bright but bright and higher output over OEM, OEM HID's as i said look like halogens

or just plain ole horrible credit! i would never pay that much for a 25k car. that's a car payment for like a benz or something.

if i want to retain the stock GT HID brightness 4300k oem hids I shouldn't be looking ot 6000k hid replacement bulbs (d2s? i believe someone correct me if wrong) i like the output of the OEM hid 4300k bulbs but i want a whiter color.

Lol well they used to have a cx-7 turbo, and she didn't want it anymore and couldn't wait to get a new car. So when they bought the speed the loan that they financed was around $35k. But the car is now level with how much they owe and how much its worth so theyre thinking about getting rid of it.

The fact the bank allowed a 850/month payment to float on through is another good benchmark of the path to current state of the economy.

America... **** YEAH!

Haha also feel bad for the person buying the "GT" to find the LED taillights aren't there.
