Getrag 4WD System for our MS3s...?

Getrag is a Swedish engineering company that specializes in transmissions. They prototyped a 4WD system for the Mini Cooper with awesome success. They hoped that BMW (maker of the Mini) offer their 4WD system as an option for buyers.

Here is an article of the Getrag Mini:

Anyone live in Sweden that can take their MS3 out to Getrag to get one prototyped...? Maybe they'll offer a kit to convert it to 4WD...?

OK, so I maybe dreaming...

Just yesterday I saw this company on Discovery HD Theater. It was a special about Sweden that included them talking to the guy that started Koenigsegg and visiting the Absolut distillery. Awesome show.

The part where they talked to the Getrag guys was friggin sweet. They took one of those 4 wheel drive mini's to a test track that had a hill with a 20 degree slope with ice on the right half of the car and just pavement on the other. 2 wheel drive version = fail. 4 wheel drive version = went right up the short hill.

Reminded me of the hoonage vid of Block on the slopes, but a "mini" version.

I know there is someone from sweden on either this board or the other one. Just need to see if they're willing to go, at least to see if its even possible and perhaps get an idea on cost

Thats exactly why I posted this!!!! I also saw the show yesterday and as I was watching I was thinking the perfect car for this type of modification would be our MS3s!!!! (lol2)

im just nit picking but 4wd is bad for a car. AWD is good there is a difference.
I honestly would love to see this make it to the MS3 the fact that it fits in the mini means im sure they can make it fit on the MS3. i would surely own a mini with AWD and i would give a kidney for an MS3 with AWD.

A Getrag awd system!! If for some insane reason they make a prototype, nobody will afford it. Unless you own some kind of racing team (lol2)

Getrag.....They make the transmission for the Caliber SRT-4...so their stuff MUST be junk, right?

Getrag makes transmissions for a lot of higher end cars like BMW as an example. My previous car, the SVT Focus had one too. It was unique to that car in Ford's line up at the time. Of course, the Mini Cooper has been using it since it's more recent US release.

I never had any of the clutch/flywheel issues that others had. Mine was perfect. I even had some minor mods and probably drove it harder than I drive my MS3 currently. I miss my SVT, but I'd sure miss my MS3 more if I didn't have it either.

Here's my question on this; If they were to make an awd conversion for the 3, would they be using the stock-ish specs to make it simple, or would they completely develope all new gear ratios and everything? I'm curious because the rear end they use "could" be a possible upgrade for the ms6. With all the stiff rear end mounts coming out for the ms6, the next thing to go back there is either the axels or the gears. If it's a totally new gear ratio, us ms6 guys could use just the tranny gears and the rear end. We might need a custom driveshaft, but hey, the end result would be worth the $$ and work to some.

The ms6 rear end is probably not gona fit on the ms3. The ms6 uses the cd3 chassis and the ms3 uses the c1. But the volvo s40 sedan and the v50 wagon use the c1 platform. And they come with awd.

The last pics the were posted here, did not showed any awd on that DG motorsport ms3. Unless they have two. One for show, one to go rallying.
