does turbo upgrade in mazda3 cause any gearbox problem?

my cousin own an old Mazda Familia GTR (turbo AWD), and he said gearbox is mazda weakness...

i dont know much about all this things, can anyone please enlighten me? :P

no one that has upgraded their three has had any gear box issues, but they have only been running for a few months so the bugs i am sure have yet to pop up. but right now i think the biggest prob with goin turbo was detonation at 11psi or so... but the kits come at 8 psi (from hi boost anyways)

hmmm... as anyone got detonation at 11psi? is it becoz of weak internals or is it running lean? pinging?

sorry to ask too much... i'm really gonna put turbo in it this december...

There is a drag mazda3 running 10's on the stock gearbox. Also, the hiboost kit put down around 320whp on stock internals. The car is alot more stout than the protege.

hmmm... thats good... i just want to know what risk am i gonna face and what that i have to prepare to pay...

I seriously doubt it is using the stock gearbox.

There have even been a few high power Mazda3's that have swapped out the Mazda tranny for the Focus MTX-75. It has never been stated if they did it for the aftermarket support or because of a weak tranny.

actually golden eagle's 3 is running on the stock gearbox, all motor roughly 300hp i believe, at least as of August.\

as far as the detonation, lot of factors. haven't heard from the east coast guy, but when using crap CA 91 octane gas it's hard to bump up the boost. i've run 15psi on roughly a 95 octane mix so far without pinging. without any timing control it's hard to see what the stock internals can do WITH PROPER TUNING. we can do all the tuning we want with fuiel maps, but it can't compete with a full tuning option.

how bout microtech LT8s?

we're talking haltech here. their E8 might? not familiar with it. but if you want timing and fuel, Juan uses it on other cars, but ignition is a bit different and would need to be replaced for this application, and it works well.

negatron... they're using a beefed up Focus tranny.

check out THIS link for more information about the Golden Eagle Mazda 3

Yeah, I remember someone building a built MTX-75 for a drag Mazda3. Might have been MarcyMotorsports. I wasn't sure it was them or not. But there is noway they could do the launches they do on a stock tranny.
Isn't one of their sponsers ClutchMasters too?

one thing to keep in mind though, is race team swap out the darn internals as they please, this might be monthly, weekly or even after each race. i think he said he'd replaced the clutch, but was using the stock tranny. 3rd gear is the one that gives the most trouble, so maybe they beefed it up. if you look at the stuff Golden Eagle puts out their i'm sure they can build a couple pieces to make it a bit tougher. they are damn hard to get a hold of, phone is much easier than email for these guys, but they are very cool once you get a hold of them.

i know the Xtrac was modified to replace the stock piece in the mazda6's in the speedworld challenge. but i think that would be a bit out of most peoples budgets for daily drivers.

IMO, The stock gearbox should hold longer than the Turbocharged load on the motor. It will pop before the tranny.

An ATX on the other had should not ever be turbocharged without being upgraded. It will cook, slip and fail.

That depends on the driver.
If you have a good tune and a stock tranny, you will be buying parts for the tranny...clutch/flywheel... down the line.
But if you are talking about the internals of the tranny, then I also agree.

All of the tranny problems have been either bad apples from the factory or people not knowing how to use nitrious.

But I will be testing the complete stock tranny with the turbo kit. I'll upgrade when nessecary.
