I was wondering who is planing on having a powerful protege and making it go down the 1/4mile? i know Juan, Manuel, maybe others but i want to get a gear set made for us (the drag racers). I was thinking of something around 1st gear going to 55 or 60 @8000rpm and 4th gear going somewhere in the hood of 155..... anyone have any input.... id like to get people together who would like them, then figure out who to make them and get a good deal.
I know juan was working on something but have heard anything about.
Anyone???

Those speeds can be attained with the stock gear ratios @ 8000RPM

Yeah but with 400whp, stock gearset will be in the edge, you will break 3rd with some practice...hehe

I say for 400whp or more you are at the edge of the stock gears, you put some pressure and it may blow. Anything over 550whp is suicide, they become glass.

What happened? bad tunning?

Only 3rd and 4th on the 323. On my case I changed all of them, and 5th gear is from 626.

i kept beating on the car with a blown HG. i think after a while the water in the cyclinders ate the piston. it deatnoted when i was on the 2step trying to launch and broke the piston.
its just what i think im not exactly sure

I've broken 3rd gear twice at the higher boost levels. :(

It's just a matter of time and miles.

how can we rev stock motors to 8krpm? i thought that wasn't possible.also, i thought we were computer limited?

Standalone. And its a waste of time to revup to 8krpms in 3rd and up if your motor is not balanced and have the head stock, plus the stock internals cant handle it. A good port n polish and a balanced engine with forged internals will get good numbers

i see. well..i have a full build bottom end. and i'm in the cam group buy...hopefully that'll help.

I broke the 3rd gear shift forks 3 times. But after the 1st time, the others just broke easily. I also never babied the car though.

The gears you broke, were they stock 3rd gears or the GTX 3rd gears?
