GB: Mazdaspeed3 Mazdaspeed Cold Air Intakes

i have access to a bunch more intakes, so anyone who wants one please post so here or PM me

NO CAI!!

I checked with Mazda parts twice before ordering and yet when I went today, these guys still managed to order the wrong (Mazda 3, not Mazdaspeed 3) parts. 10 dollars in gas, $4 in tolls, and 4 hours wasted. I am going back Thursday....hopefully they will get it right. The Dyno is still scheduled for Saturday. I should post simliar numbers as others, because I was told the CAT back exhaust does not provide a perfomance boost. It needs to be turbo back and Mazda doesn't make one of those for the MS3

I have mine now. They took longer than they said to install it. 1.5 hours versus the quoted 0.8 hours. Cost me $420 installed. Dyno is tomorrow!

The exhaust was selling for approx. $450 at two different dealers. That is the UNINSTALLED price. So no, I could not have got an exhaust for that much.

Also, and more importantly, the exhaust only gives you about 4-7 more HP depending on what you read. That is a lot of money for such little gain.

Until Mazda makes a down pipe, the pipe from the turbo to the Cat is too small to make a Cat-back advantageous.

a exhaust and intake are easy to install. U paid that extar 120 bucks from Mazda just for the ECU reflash, and for them to do a 30-45 install for you.

when you cen just pay 40 bucks more and get th CP-E CAI, with proven dynos for more power.

it matters if u care for the warranty or not.

The dyno posted by speedy 3 a member of this forum showed more gain for the ms cai than the ones posted for cpe.

Could a dealer really prove that a CP-E CAI caused a problem as opposed to a MS CaI?
They are sort of the same thing, I guess I'm trying to say if mazda sells a CAI for this car I think it would be hard for them to prove that another brand caused a problem.
Everyone is going to buy what they think is best for themselves.
Me I like the quality and R&D of the CP-E CAI and thats what Im going with.

any idea how the cai is affecting your air fuel ratios

Hey Dread, It turns out to be fairlly difficult to determine the A/F ratio from the SW, but I was able to get some useful data, then derive the commanded A/F ratio.

First off, the numbers indicate that the First O2 sensor is measuring the A/F to be about 8% leaner than stock with the MS CAI. The good news is that the ECU is commanding a decrease in the A/F ratio (Richer) by about 6% to compensate. The Commanded A/F ratio under peak load in stock config was about 12.2. The Commanded A/F ratio under full load with the MS CAI was about 11.5. This is the commanded A/F ratio based on compensation learned from feedback while previously driving, so it seems, it is compensating for the MS CAI. I also noticed during the dyno tests that almost the same density of black smoke was coming out of the exhaust in stock vs with MS CAI. So, despite the difference in diameter of the MAF housing (as posted by flyrevs and cp-e) and the increase in air-flow from stock to MS CAI, it seems the MS 3 ECU is adjusting the A/F ratio to keep the car from running too lean. Initial results look like it is about 2% leaner.

I do care about the warranty. My car is brand new, so it seems silly to me to possibly void a waranty on a $23,000 car with 2.8 years / 35,400 miles to go, just to save myself $120.

So U won't be upgrading ur DP or exhaust then, right?
