Gauge Works Full Pillar Pods are shipping

The Gauge Works Full Pillar Pods for the 00-03 Protege evidently are shipping. I received the shipping info from Options Auto Salon (www.optauto.com) just a minute ago on my order I placed six weeks ago when they were first announced. The price is $56 plus shipping.

Installation notes

I installed my Gauge Works Full Pillar Pod yesterday. Took 10 minutes only because I had to remove the single pod Corky had installed. On the other hand I already had the wiring/tubing hole drilled in the pillar pod and the wiring and tubing installed. My guess is less than 30 minutes for anyone.

Although called a "full pillar pod" these are (and are so described in the specs) covers for the factory pillar but the fit is nice and in my opinion looks factory. I'm very pleased.

In answer to CincyMazda's question, I'm using Corky's boost gauge for my first gauge and haven't yet decided what my second gauge will be. The placement of the gauges is very good as the "higher" one (which I'm using for the boost gauge) is really in your face and easy to read.

I don't have a digital camera so can't supply a picture but then I haven't yet painted mine so a pic wouldn't make much sense. I hope to find a good paint match for my factory gray interior but haven't yet called any dealers to see if Mazda sells such a product.

and what exactly do they do ? Oil Temp ? Water Temp ? what esle.

He's not refering to the guages themselves, but the pods that hold them in place!

More Installation Notes

Here's what I've found out about painting the black Gauge Works Full Pillar Pod.

Mazda only sells exterior paint so no help there.

I pulled the passenger side A pillar (not a hard job--start at the top and pull straight out, then work back and forth the molded guide at the bottom). Looking at it in bright light it is evident the color (light gray on mine) is actually molded in and has some black flecks so no paint is going to match perfectly. I went to Home Depot so I could get the color scanned to match and here's the formula they came up with: Behr Premium Plus Int Satin Enamel, Pastel Base (7500) with the following colarants: B Lamp Black, OZ-0,48-10, 96-0; E Thalo Blue OZ-0,48-2, 96-0; L Raw Umber OZ-1,48-28, 96-0.

The color matches pretty well but clearly will look different from the other pillars on really close inspection as the new paint isn't molded in and doesn't have the flecks. The unpainted surface does have a slight texture like the factory pillars and all-in-all I'm happy with the paint.

This is latex paint so it's easy to clean up. It comes in flat, eggshell, satin, gloss and high gloss (from no to high sheen). I chose satin but believe flat would match better. Cost is $10/quart (the smallest custom match size) which will allow you to paint about 10000 pillar posts.

You can also try an automotive upholstery distributor. They sell interior colors in spray cans, specially for plastics.

Yeah, I am with Smithers on this one. I don't know the first thing about electronics installation. A "HOW TO" would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Moose

I want 60mm guages.
2 1/16"~53mm

2 5/8"~66mm, right?

WHICH do i get??

I really would like to see pics of the gauge pod installed in someones car.
I'd like to see "how close to factory" the pod looks.

From what Ive seen 2 1/16 is the perfect size. It also seem to be the more popular size.

Later

Perfect size for WHAT? 52mm or 60mm????
