Gauge Needle Repair

Just to warn you ... if you get a new cluster the mileage WILL NOT be the same. If you find a salvaged cluster the mileage will read what the wrecked car had ... and if its a new cluster you will read 0. I broke the needles on my cluster when we did the reverse indiglos and I picked up a used cluster. My car has 30k miles on it and the clusters car had 60k so if you check my cluster my mileage has basically doubled. However, the ecu stores correct mileage so dealerships can check it that way.

omg how do i get my cluster reprogrammed to my mileage? i talked to richard from mazda south and he said he knew nothing about this...but i read that it is possible - maybe calling mazda corp will help?

we just ordered a p5 cluster for $150, from that W&W place. i called them about the 99s and they didnt have a tach or didnt work with keyless entry.

well 150 is a hell of alot better than like $700

hopefully it will work in my car

LOL thats funny...Im amazed at how he broke the whole needle off...what was he installing? DaveB Gauge Rings? Or is it the reverse indiglo gauges? Cuz if it's the rings, how did you guys manage that?

he was trying to 'force' the ring in. i guess he didnt watch the video that i watched like 1000 times and still couldnt get it right. it didnt help that the mofo was eating chips that was greasy and slipped and broke the needle right off. he also got grease on my bezel and the window....grrrr

well at least the new one will be unopened and free from crap like that. i think when i do the rings on the new one i think i will use latex gloves to preserve that never touched by human hands barrier.

You won't need to use the speedo or tach from the new cluster. All you need is the broken gauge. I would assume that they are separate and you could just take the new one out and put that into your existing cluster. Not just the needle.

Can't you just take the odometer off the old cluster and install it on the new one?
