are you suggesting "Socialized Gas"?

Nah, just keep bombing and invading other countries with the excuse of delivery of democracy and progress, start stealing their resources and you know...there you go. Get your own people to die for a good reason...

Oh Im sorry, its already happening!

FYI my friend...do some research...while we could have a hand in Iraqi oil, we don't. Let me repeat that...we do not have a single finger in their oil. When you find something telling me we taking Iraqi oil and importing to our shores that's not in someones opinion column you let me know. In the mean time, I'll let you worry about it for me. I have enough other s*** to worry about before I start to worry about gas prices which are lower than 80% of the rest of the world.

I hate this stupid war as much as the next guy...but we are not getting any Iraqi Oil...unless we PAY for it.

Oh christ, what a misperception. The US isn't getting ANY breaks on oil, with or without this war, that's for certain. In fact, I'd argue that the war is probably hurting our cause in that area.

I'm not worried about it...why?...because what's the point. I need it to survive like everyone else. I'll just have to re-arrange finances.

I hope you aren't saying that the only reason that oil companies are raising gas prices is so that they can "survive".

But I do agree, we have it good still here compared to a lot of other countries in the world.

THE NEW FEDERAL IRAQI OIL LAW

http://raedinthemiddle.blogspot.com/

A preamble:

Taking in consideration that the law privatises Iraqs oil and opens the doors for U.S. companies to sign long term contracts controlling Iraqs oil resources and infrastructure, this law is in violation of existing U.S. Public Law No: 109-234 that says: To provide that no funds made available by title I of this Act may be made available to establish permanent United States military bases in Iraq or to exercise control by the United States over the oil infrastructure or oil resources of Iraq. U.S. contractors, such as Bearing Point, have been working with the U.S. State Department to draft the Iraqi Oil law and the State Department has been pushing for the privatization of Iraqs oil in plans dating as far back as 2002.

Kansei....off topic...I like your Protege 5 chrome accents...looks cool. I had a Red Protege5 when they first came out...loved that car!!! Gas prices are crummy and should be $1.50, but no matter what we are driving it all just stinks.....it is worth it to me to have this car hands down!

try living on a island. Gas here for me has been around the $1.20-$1.30/L for months.
Friggin sucks. I finally get the car I always wanted, and gas becomes an issue.

I paid $3.79 a gallon yesterday (ughdance)

regrettably I charged the money to my mom's account because I'm nearing the end of the semester and money is getting way tight.. especially with "making the car work as it should again" (read: new pads, rotors, brake lines, and fluid post-accident) expenses.

so yeah that means more riding the bike for me. Tis a pitty that Rochester has such a wet climate..

LOL it's funny to hear that some folks are not worried about prices must be nice living it rich.

just messin dont take offense to it

Gas prices are not really that bad. If we compare the cost of 1,000 gallons of gas purchased at the average price in any given year as a percentage of per-capita disposable income, the true cost of gasoline is as cheap today as the 60's.

If we go far back, say 1935, with gas at 17 cents per gallon, that would be about $177 per year. Sounds great until you factor in that the average disposable income was $466. So, 36% of your spending money went to gas.

And, during the 60's and early 70's, when the horspeower wars were raging, gas was cheaper, right? Not really. Even then, a 1000 gallons of gas would take up 12% of your disposable income.

What about our near future at $4 per gallon? Well, that would take us back to a similar 13% of disposable income. At $2.50, it was 8%. No need to hope for cheap gas like the 60's, we are already there.

So, it is mostly hype. They report the highest cost per barrel in history, but, you should expect that each year it does reach a historical high. A 4% increase is basically zero. Standard effect of inflation.

Thats what Im talking about, but everything is fuel related, food transport, heat, travel, water delivery, all fabrications, etc...

And if you dont match the inflation with average salaries, they will be practically pulling that % of inflation OFF us and making the margin between poor and riche even bigger.

So for the richer, it cost a bit more, for the common person, it cost a leg, for the poor people, they have no chance at all, they will suffer in all aspect of their lives.

Take for example one of the forum members said, that he would just re-arrange their costs, yeah, well, you have to cut on something, its either food, other basic needs, payments or entertainment.

They say that one bloke figured out inexpencive way to turn water to hydrogen - so you can pour water to your tank, instead of carrying enormous and heavy highpressure hydrogen tanks with you.

Cost of doing business... it's not about someone being "rich," - you just need to manage your expenses and know what you can justify spending on transportation.

Personally, I could take the bus to work, but the extra 2 hours travel time per day would be more expensive by the end of the first week of such a practice, even if gas were to "double" for a year of time.

So if you have time to take public transportation, go for it. My girlfriend for example, she can hop on the LRT and there are no stops between our station at our condo building at the two stations at the university. She not only saves money by doing this, but also time... so in certain situations it can work out great. She wouldn't even benefit from having a car in her situation.
