Gas Mileage Thread

So I have had my P5 about a month now and I have put 4 tanks of gas in it. The total average is 29.4. The car gets about 32 on mostly highway and 27 mostly city driving. Overall I am pretty happy with the mileage, but I am going to see what I can do this tank of gas. I am thinking it will not be hard to get about 35 in city driving and I don't think 40 is out of the question. I'll post up the results at the end of this tank.

i think the most i have ever gotten out of a tank was like 450, which would equate to 34/35mpg

i normally get 380 per tank and now that im turbo i average around 320 per tank
thats with normal driving with occasionally stepping on it

It all depends on the driver and the car but I can't get more than 28 in town. I would bet you can't get 35+ in town in a P5.

In town mileage is all about your driving and not so much about the car. I have personally nearly doubled my city mileage compared to my normal driving in another vehicle I used to own. Highway mileage on the other hand is nearly fixed. It varies with load and RPM but not enough to make a big difference.
Back when gas was nearly $4.00 a gallon I was in high MPG mode all the time. When gas dropped below $3.00 I lost my motivation and went back to normal driving. I just want to see what I can get out of the P5. I doubt I will be doing this long term.

It's mostly the driver but it IS all about the car. The air in the tires, excess weight in the car, the brand and grade of fuel used, the condition of the ignition system, the temperature and humidity in the air, hell there are LOTS of things that could cause a car to get worse mileage so the condition of the car is important.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that one. The car can be in top shape and still it has its limits. You cannot tune up a car that is in reasonable condition and double the gas mileage. Only the driver can do that. Granted I am talking in terms of percentages. I am not saying I could make a Suburban get 30mpg in the city.

So I did a few little things this week to try to improve mileage, but honestly I was a little lazy about it. There is a lot more that can be done and I am going to try during this next tank.

Driving strictly in the city this week with trips no more than 5 miles at a time I drove 85.9 miles. The car held 2.765 gallons, so 31.1 mpg. That is a little less than 4mpg better than my best mixed mileage. I am going to go the full tank this next time and see what happens.

so far i have been gettin crazy good gas mileage, i got 140 miles on 1/4 of a tank
i had to take my battery off so i couldnt continue the count to see my mileage on a full tank :(

That sounds good man. Post up what you get on the next tank.

Were you driving around the university area today? I though I saw your car on the road.

nah im in fayetteville for the weekend, ive seen a couple p5's around there though

you drive a p5? edit: nvm just saw your sig lol

man i hate threads like this.

Last tank i got 246 miles out of 11.9 gallons. that was 70/30 freeway/ City.

:( SAD

edit: thats about 20 mpgs

hell my last trip was 300 miles racing and running 16psi got 32 and a trip from Utah to Wyoming I got 41!!!@80mph cruising
