FYI VRS exhaust

Where exactly is VRS? I live in Miami, and I'd love to put this on tomorrow in my car. Does putting this on void the factory warranty? Would this add any horsepower to my car?
A cat back "should not" void the warrenty.
VRS is Miami Muffler.

I'd swear that sytem looks like there's no cats on it... (boom06)

Ok, just got this reply from VRS:

VRS guy said:
IT DOES REMOVE THE 2ND CAT, WHICH IS NOT NEEDED, AND WILL NOT TURN ON ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BECUASE THEIR IS 1 CAT AT THE MANIFOLD, AND THE O2 SENSOR IS BEFORE THE 2ND CAT, IVE HAD IT ON THE CAR( I AM THE OWNER OF THE ONE IN THE PICS) FOR 2500 MILES, NO LIGHT, NO PROBLEMS.

Do you think removing the second CAT would void the factory warranty?

I think it might. I asked him that and have yet to receive a reply. (dunno)

Goldwing kinda scared me off with the warranty issue. I don't want to loose my warranty for taking out the second cat. Mazda has already denied me a warranty claim just because I installed an EQ. I had to take it to another dealer to get my airbag light turned off. Looks like the Mazda dealers aren't cutting us much slack on mods for this car.

I wouldn't write off all dealers. Mine seems pretty cool. They didn't say anything about my air horns when I took mine in for the airbag light. In fact, they said they enjoyed playing with them. :p

Anyway, I went to the dealer yesterday to order the spin-on oil filter conversion parts. I was going to ask my tech about the VRS/warranty issue but he's out to training and won't be back till Monday. I'll keep everybody posted as I hear things.

Maybe Wongpres can offer some insight?

I don't know anything about the VRS exhaust stuff.

As for the oil filter. The adapter for the spin-on type is part# L301-14-310, and a required gasket is part# LF01-14-342, and then you're good to go with the conventional spin-on type oil filter for the 2.3l

And here's a PDF the diagrams everything:

Yeah, I know what the parts are. I ordered them yesterday. (2thumbs)

What is the number for the new oil filter, though? Standard Protege filter?

My question about the exhaust is whether removing the 2nd cat will void the warranty. Any idea?

OK, just got off the phone with VRS exaust. Actually the Exaust system is going to start production in a few weeks and will be ready to ship in about 3 weeks. They are going to honor the special price of $360 past May 1rst because of the delay.

What they told me about the warranty issue is that it should not affect warranty because it does not eliminate the initial CAT nor the O2 sensor. If worse comes to worse and your really worried about it you can always mount your old muffler back on since this system is COMPLETELY BOLT ON. So I guess that might take care of any warranty issues. What do you think?

Oh, also These are completely Mandrel Bent (only Mandrel Bender in the seven southeast states of the U.S.) So it's not really a custom exaust, it requires no welding of parts, it's all Mandrel Bent and specific to the car and it's factory hanger locations.

Claimed HP increase of 8-10 HP with the 2.5 inch piping. I would say this is conservative considering the elimination of the rear CAT converter. I would think it would be an increase in the low teens.

This, and the CAI should be good for close to 20 HP. Now that's something!!!

I'm Not sure it'll free up that much HP

I'm not sure it'll free up that much hp alone, maybe with a few other mods yes, but 8-10 is about right for just an exhaust. Of course I could be completely wrong and the the stock exhaust is so restrictive that higher gains would be possible.....

The new spin-on oil filter will be the same part # as on the 2.0l Mazda3.

I have no idea if removing the 2nd cat will void the warranty.

Still have not gotten a reply from VRS and now I know why.

I talked to my tech today.
I asked him if removing the second cat will void the warranty.
His answer was... maybe. ;)

Actually, his answer was, "Depends on what dealer you take it to."

So I asked him if HE would void my warranty if I removed the second cat.

He said no. As long as the O2 sensor was left in between the cats, he wouldn't care.

So, to answer the question: Yes, it CAN void your warranty. If you have dickheads in the service department (as I know some of you do), then I would definitely NOT go with the VRS system.

I would talk to your dealer (directly to the Mazda tech, if possible) and see what they say.

I still don't think I'll buy from VRS, though. Their obvious dodging of my questions has made me wary of their customer service and therefore their products. I'll wait for some competion to come out and see what's what.

Yup. Bought the car from Sesi and have been going back there for all parts and service. Roger is the Mazda Tech and he's a good guy.

I have been completely and utterly satisfied with every experiance I have had at that dealership.

Yea goldwing, I hear ya, but you have to remember one thing though, this is a bolt on system. So, you can always put your old muffler back on if you think it's going to be a problem. The dealer I take my car to, my best friends sister is the finance manager, and we know ALL the techs so they won't give me any problems, short of putting a turbo in my car. But just the fact that it's bolt on should relieve some of your worries about your warranty. Also removing the second CAT is really kinda necessary if you want any serious power gains with this, don't you think? (no) Say NO TO DEALER ASSHOLES

will this system fit on the sedan or just the hatch, i thought the overall length was a few inces different? (uhm) also, it gives 2 muffler choices, which ones gonna sound better on my car, i dont wanna order an exhaust and have it shipped all the way from florida and have it sound like crap.
