Future of the Mazda5

Well stock I think it is pretty ugly, but with the changes I have made (lowered, bigger wheels, tint) it appears a lot more aggressive and I like the looks a lot now . I get a lot of compliments on it and people asking me what it is, and comment on how "modern" looking it is.

Ok, I think we establish stock is pretty ugly. You can make any car look much nicer with the same mods you’ve done. I’ll bet that a Lafesta with the same tasteful mods (tint, drop, wheels) in a prettier color with depth (other than black which hides all of the lines) will look MUCH better. This is an updated <’10 in every aspect but without the funk.

“Modern” – I’m not sure how I would interpret that. Sounds like a euphemism for “different” or “fresh” without saying what the hell :D. But that’s just me being sensitive. Thank goodness we have options and I seem to like older looking cars so I’m bias (see sig) :). I will add that it is pretty universal known Mazda’s attempt at implementing the Nagare design was a huge fail and they abandoned it lightning fast. Looks great in concept but not practical in real word. I’d file that design under Matchbox/Hot Wheels.

I must be in the minority. I actually LIKE the AutoExe 2012+ Mazda5 front end.
Eye of the beholder so there’s no wrong/right.

IMO, if you are going to have massive scoops, the rest of the car better be redonkulous. Also, the front end consists of hard masculine lines but right after the A pillars are organic/flowing curves. For better or worse, the salamander face flows with those curves.

The 09-10 gs tail lights with the big triangle of red were beyond ugly, the gt ones were ok. I like the 07 ones I have or the new style car.

Interestingly, i LOVE the smiley face on my Mazdaspeed3, but HATE it on my Mazda5.

Also, opposite to you, I LOVE the tail lights.

On the 09/10 mazda5, I couldn't STAND the ugly tail lights.... especially when clear, looked like Pep Boys special.

I modified my mazdaspeed3 tails, so they aren't garish clear anymore.

Oh I agree on the 09/10 mazda5 tail lights. I've got one and it's one of the things I hate. The rear profile looks eh, but the side profile really don't like. I love the earlier 3 circular tail lights (why did mazda get rid of them?). I'm planing on eventually going that route BUT I'll be opening them up and painting them black.

The first gen is ugly stock too.

As a MS3 owner, I am a scoop *****, and I am ok with that :)

Ugly is a bit harsh for the 1st gen. Maybe we can settle on less ugly than the 2nd gen. IF Mazda brings back a new one, I would expect the Kodo design to play out well on the car. The trendy massive front grill that everyone seems to be doing would go well with the larger size of the Mz5 – I think.

I respect anyone who knows exactly what they like regardless how sick, twisted, and demented it may be. ***** away! :D (J/K) Don’t we all have some *****’ish pretentions on somethings? ;)

Would love to have a new MZ5 and if done well and advertised properly it would be a viable alternative to Odyssey and Sienna for those looking for more fun and a lower price in exchange for a smaller footprint.

I certainly hope Mazda continues the Mazda5 with the new design features, along with Skyactiv engine. Our 2008 model is getting a little bit tired, and I would love to replace it with a Kodo-inspired version.

Mt 2010 5 just hit 100,000 miles not to long ago, and I plan on driving it into the ground, but regardless of what Mazda's does with the 5 in the states, when it comes time to get another family hauler, I won't be buying a Toyota, Honda, or Chrysler. So if the 5 isn't available, it will be a CX-5 or redesigned CX-9 for me. The CUV segment isn't the route I prefer to take, but, if I have to drive a family hauler, I am at least going to drive something that is relatively fun and engaging to drive. I refuse to drive those toaster like appliances they call mini-vans that Honda, Toyota, and Chrysler offer. I have been there and done that...ain't my cup of tea.

Agreed, we almost had our 5 traded in on a new micra as my wife had one as her first car and wanted another. Then we decided the 5 is more practical, and paid off. So we are keeping it. I am doing all the needed maintence on it now, new roof rack, wheels, electronics etc for it. We love it, and we have 130k on ours and only a few minor hiccups and one replaced transmission. It was getting long in the tooth as we were deciding on what to do. Now that we are keeping it, The car is being brought back to as new as we can.

Cburrell, We own a home in Zephyrhills, and have a 2013 Chrysler caravan bought for down there. Works for our needs but I agree, not near as engaging to drive. We tried to talk our folks into buying a 5 for down there but we needed more space than the 5 could provide for making the trips from Orlando airport to the house with all our gear.
