Funny noises from delrin TRZ mount

So I've read quite a few reviews of the delrin TRZ mount stating that the vibrations aren't so bad, and that its very driveable...

I installed mine last night and the vibrations are pretty bad, but more importantly, I am hearing a LOT of clunking noises from underneath the car when I shift, and at other seemingly random times. Its almost like something is loose down there, but I got underneath and torqued everything down to 65 ft-lbs and double checked everything, seemed to be OK.

Anyone else with the TRZ notice clunking/clicking noises? Is this normal?
 
it is probably thing that have been happening all along, but the stock spongy mount absorbed it all. the delrin mount will transfer any clunks or rattle that may be caused by something else. i have both style TRZ mounts and never felt what you are describing. maybe your driverside mount is shot ? i have torn mine twice !! but i drive like a dickbag !
 
I too drive like a dickbag. I abuse the hell out of my car.

The sound seems to be coming from underneath the car, not from the engine bay. When it clunks/clicks I can feel it in the pedals. It seems to be happening pretty consistently when I press the clutch. But it happens other times too.

Can anyone reccomend some test procedures to maybe isolate and identify what might be causing the problem?
 
No I hear most of the same noises. When you are at a cruise and switch gears you can hear the syncros grab as you engage the gear. I have all sorts of crazy noises and vibrations with the mount. As Ken suggested the mount breaks in after 2 weeks, but I wanted the softer of the 2 TRZ's from the start so its driving me nuts. I am also relatively gentle with my car so I don't think driving like an ass is the problem. I also drive with the radio off most of the time so I may be more nitpicky than most.

I don't think the noise is from the synchros engaging, though it might be. I can't seem to get this thing to make the same noise unless I'm moving, and sometimes its made when I'm in neutral.

Performance wise, I am very satisfied with the results of this mount, WOT through first and second is bonerific now, but in terms of driving around the city, its just not gonna do.

Which I guess is fine because it takes all of 5 minutes to swap out the mounts.
 
That's strange, I get that clunky sound at start up, and shifting into first. It's a minimal clunky sound. But noticable.... give it some time, it should set... if not; I'm not sure what to tell you. :-\
 
Regardless... I'm a big fat wuss, this mount is a bit too much for me to leave in all the time. I don't go WOT at every light, most of my driving is done in stop and go and around the city... and the mount is just making me hate my car.

However, last night at 3am on some back roads i was absolutely ecstatic with it, I wasn't pushing the car really hard, but I was driving more aggressively than I do in rush hour traffic. This mount does exactly what it was designed to do, and it does it well.

I guess I'll leave it in for a bit, see if it settles in at all. This thing is a must though if you EVER take your car to the track.
 
I have the poly and I noticed the noises also. I can hear more noises coming from the transmission when I shift in and out of gears. I also noticed that when I go wot in a gear I get vibes in high rpms. It is still a great mod and I am not going to take it off.
 
nutari says it helped his car though i dont see how.... there is no correct way to do it really. it is a symetrical design. it will be the same thing no matter which way you turn it. i dont see there being a problem with the mounts.... they are solid. if the holes line up and you have it tight, nothing can go wrong. i think some did not know what to expect. you will feel some clunks when shifting. thats because the now solid mount transfers the driveline shock that is always present with every shift. if you can get under your car and move the mount by hand...then i would say you have a problem. i think some are just more sensitive maybe ?? i run my poly mount on the street, and swap to the delrin for the strip, and i have left the solid mount on for a few weeks too. i to get some noises, but not nearly as bad as what i hear in this thread.

Threads like this keep me from pulling the trigger on ANY motor mount. :( True story. I just don't know what to do - I love my car more than any man should love anything other than a woman's Verily; 'tis true. I don't want to feel like I'm operating a Russian Mig under the deck at mach 13 with it vibrating apart at the seams. I also would love to have smoother shifts and no wheel hop no matter the WO-ness of the T. I don't want my fiance leaning against my steering wheel as I drive to 'feel the vibe', nor do I want numby-hand from the shakin' I'd take.

I have the SS, but am uncertain on the bushings too (not pulled the trigger) as I have a buddy whom I trust very much. He has an MS in engineering and tears Evo's apart and rebuilds them from the ground up, then has to completely retune and retime the engines - in other words, serious big time OG tuner. He says he's never like shifter bushings because it makes the shifter too firm, and you often have to kind of muscle shifts into place. Just like mounts, some people say 'awesome' and others neigh-say. :( I need to speak with myself in the future AFTER I've purchased them, then if I don't like them I have no need to Quantum Leap back and save myself the money or the retarded guy who works by the docks will spill chemicals on his care-taker brother and it will ruin their lives.

then stick with inserts if you dont want to feel that the part is there. you wont gain much from it, but you wont even know that they are installed.

Whelp. Figured out the bulk of my problem.

First off, it takes longer to jack the car up than it does to swap out the mount, so I got under there last night and played around with it. The metal tube piece that sits in the delrin bushing is one culprit of the metal on metal clunks I was hearing. Perhaps just putting some squishy epoxy or something on it to keep it in place would help. The other culprit I think was just normal noises from the drivetrain, once I eliminated the big issue, most of the clunks went away, but there was still some annoying noises coming from the mysterious parts of the engine that I don't fully understand.

Now... the big issue was that the added vibs from the mount caused my cobb intake filter to "vibrate" right off the MAF housing. It dropped down into my engine bay and was rolling around, hitting things, causing annoying noises.

Keep in mind, this isn't a problem with the mount, its just a problem with me not putting my filter on tight enough. So if you put the delrin mount in, make sure you go back and batten down the hatches and make sure you did your jobs right, instead of being dumb like me.

End result... less annoying than I originally thought, but still a bit much for street. It'll be going in this thursday at the strip for sure though.
 
Wow. (boom05) That can't be good AT ALL to have no filter at the end of your big suction-making hose...
 
Nope. Not at all. I was freaking out when I popped my hood and saw that BTW.

I checked the MAF, seemed to be clean. Checked inside the MAF housing and the hose and everything looked just as clean as the day I got the intake.

I never got a CEL.

Can anyone suggest some other things I might want to check? I really want a boost gauge now to make sure I'm still making the right amount of boost and I didn't totally bork my turbo :(((((

Then again, if the turbo is broken, maybe its time for a garret?
