Funkin Ticket!

I should have been more specific. I'm speaking about 2 lane highways with little volume. I'm talking blue hairs, teeny boppers on cell phones and people driving like they are comatose. If traffic is heavy, I'm not speeding anyway. It's not a matter of miles per hour. It's a matter of decisions per minute. Lots of cars....and I hang back.
My commute is what I am talking about mostly. It's a 2 lane highway out in the country for 40 minutes. Two cars trolling along @ 60mph boils my blood.

(iagree)

Even on the 8 lane I-66, I don't see why grandmas have to hog the left lane going the speed limit. I know it is the law in Virginia to yield to a faster moving vehicle on the left lane regardless of whether the person in the back is speeding or not. I think that law only applies to the roads with center dividers though (like the interstate). Please correct me if I'm wrong about that Virginian regulation. People blocking the left lane on a 4 lane highway (2 lane in each direction) should not be allowed to drive; nevertheless, I wonder if they can actually be prosecuted for their stupidity. -_-a

Overly agressive drivers are rampant here in Florida. I can't tell you the number of asshats who will see the 2 or 3 car lengths between me and the person in front of me doing 70 mph in the fast lane, 5 mph over the limit, and zip around me to the right to cram their huge SUV into that tiny spot, because you know, they just HAVE to be in front of me.

At 70mph on a highway, 2 or 3 car lengths is nowhere near enough of a safety buffer at those speeds....

This is my single most biggest gripe about drivers today.....Just because your car will fit there...doesn't mean it should.

Hey amn..Be easy on the guy...We all do exactly thsame hing and it is BS that people want to tailgate all of the time.

I drive a lot fo work and I see some really dumb things out of most drivers.

Following WAY too closely.
Always wanting to go faster than the guy in front of them..Regardless of what speed they are traveling
Never Leving Us Assured clear distance..If there is a hole..I'll be damned if a car won't squeeze in there...GOd forbid if we need to stop quick.
Mutiple lane changes
Idiots who cant Merge...What is with these people

Timid drivers is one reason. They merge too slow or too close to the merger in front of them, thus not allowing enough room so they slow down.

The biggest problem I've found with merging is too many people crowding the merge lane (bumper to bumper).

People who do speeds excessively UNDER the speed limit...yes...There is minumum speeds you must maintain....35 in a 65 onthe highway is not acceptable....who are these people anyway?

There are minimum speed limits on contolled access roads. You have to allow for that, at a minimum (no pun intended).

Don't even get me started on this stuff.

He was wrong for speeding..but sometimes you HAve to ....Period.

Just Ease up on the Uber Harsh Responses.

Tap your brakes? So you can teach him a lesson? C'mon man either ignore the person or get out of the way...your taping on the brakes will only make the guy behind you mad and do something stupid.
Seriously how many times has "tapping" on your breaks had a positive effect?(fuoops)

as for the OP...
sorry about the ticket. cops are lame and tend to enforce the laws as they see fit (to the letter of the law one time and then not enforce the law at all the next) as opposed to fairly and consistently.

If you do go to court... be very polite and respectful to the judge and officer, but you cannot admit to going over the speed limit. Say that the driver behind you was threatening and driving erratically. Explain to the judge that you were speeding up to get out of the guys way because you felt in danger.
Good luck!

It's best not to mess with people or create a more dangerous situation. That
said, I prefer to downshift (rpm match), engine brake to get the driver's attention, and then zoom-zoom away and then move into another lane and slow down again to my preferred speed, and look at them when they do a fly-by.

We are lucky enough to have posted signs on the freeway that say "Slower Traffic Move Right".

Unfortunately people are cell phoning, applying make-up, reading books, reaching under their seats, etc. so they're too busy to see the signs to get over.
You know that you're behind a great driver when you see their rearview mirror is turned so they can see themselves.

But tailgating only works if your in a bigger vehicle or some POS that people will worry about. Old beat-up trucks or station wagons work good. You know the ones...one headlight, no side mirrors, 2 or 3 different paint colors and trailed by large clouds of smoke.
