Full power shifts and one very loud crack

This past weekend I pulled out into a tight spot in traffic and really got on the gas. The shift was a normal shift, quick but a complete shift and I did lift on the throttle, I was back onto it and dropped the clutch simultaneously and whack things made a horrible cracking noise.

I've heard the pounding of wheel hop and it was subtle compared to this sound. If you've ever heard a CV joint fail, this was like one short crack of that kind of sound. I'm guessing its impossible but the only other thing I could guess is that a diff gear or a tranny gear could have dropped a tooth or something. I'm guessing things would have piled up pretty fast if that was the case.

It just so happened to be the same day I took it to a dealer to have the oil changed, I told them and they tried to convince me that it was a rock hitting the undercarriage...this was no rock, it was a solid mechanical/gearbox cracking sound. The dealer simply said, there's nothing we can do.

Anybody have any ideas? I'd really rather not stop driving the crap out of my car...I enjoy it!

I would send an email to the service manager and get it in writing that they said there's nothing they can do. Then if things do start to go down hill, you have a record saying that they wouldn't look at it.

I know you probably didn't, but I would not mention to them that you powershifted the car.

I've had this happen to me 2 times since owning my car and they were both on power shifts. Scared the s*** out of me. Both times it was during the powershift from 1st to 2nd. Ive been told its the weak motor mounts letting the engine slam into the firewall which sounds really likely. One thing I can tell you for sure is that once I installed my TRZ MM I never again heard this sound.

well then dont power shift from 1 to 2. easy fix. if you do a search, somewhere on here there is an article where mazda told the magazine to liftt on the 1-2 shift and power shift the rest for the best times.

This sound wasn't the engine hitting the firewall, it was a gearboxy mechanical sound. I do respect the fact that it may be unnecessarily hard on the car and obviously I'm not driving around trying to replicate the sound.

More of my concerns surround trying to figure out what it is so I can be very careful about observing problems before they become severe. All of that said, I really believe that there's abolutely no way that the powertrain of a car shouldn't be able to absorb the full brunt of the engine under an aggressive shift. I'm fine with clutches and such wearing out quicker, but the powertrain should have many times the ability to carry all the power the engine can dish out.

Okay If Im correct i had the same issue one mount was giving up, if it's a LOUD BANG than it's the mount, it sounds terrible.

Aftermarket mounts should be an option when you buy the car lol........

Same thing has happened to me ... Scared the living crap out of me. I don't see how it could be a Mount, it does sound like more of a crack then anything else.

yeah this happened to me twice right after I got the car. I am pretty sure it was the motor mount allowing the engine to hit the fire wall.

I've had this.

What is the MOST conservative/pussy motor mount solution out there? I don't want to feel vibrations and hear noise with 'x' situation. I want it as close to invisible as possible, savvy?

Most invisible = inserts
i dont have the inserts so i can't comment on the vibrations.

The AWR mount is almost identical to the Factory mount only no big gaps any where. Seriously though, I would be surprised if anyone could tell the dif!

The CP-E 50 durometer rubber mount is probably more "invisible" than the insert. Apparently works really well, too.

This sounds like the exhaust smacking the floor pan. it makes a helluva mechanical bang....
