fuel cap

So I go to fuel up and the fuel cap won't come off. It'll unscrew but it won't come out of the fuel tank. I screw it back on and try again...nope it won't come off at all. Of course I have to do it multiple times to make sure it's not operator error.
I happen to have a set of channel locks with me so I grab the top of the cap and give it a gentle tug...and now I have the top of the cap in the channel locks and the screw part still in the tank.
That's the bad news. The good news is it's covered under warranty. No questions, no hassle just hang on while I go get you a new one. I can't believe it.

Just thought I'd share some good dealer news and to say not to tug too hard on your cap if it's stuck.

Unfortunately this is a common problem. The part number has been superseded about 7 times which indicates a couple of changes to the design. For a while we were swapping these bad boys out left and right, but it's not as common anymore as most have the updated caps on then. Happy to hear getting it warrantied worked out smooth for you.

Nope it was like the threads were stuck or something. I mean it wouldn't budge. It was stuck enough to come apart when I pulled on it. The last time it happened I could wiggle it and it would pop out but not this time. I'm glad it happened to me and not the wife. She would have been stuck.

Autotown, it was the easiest warranty issue I've ever had. I was expecting the run a round because of what it was but like I said, no worries at all.

Resurecting an old discussion...
Same problem here. The cap was stuck... unable to unscrew it off. Then, the top of the cap stayed in my hand while the other part was still in. Used crimps to take it off... But I realized it was a bit off; I surely screwed it in not perfectly perpendicular causing the threads to jam in. I am now able to open and close it using just the threaded part without the top of the cap. You were telling it's covered by warranty? I'll see, and let you know.

Went at my dealer. Cap was replaced for free. The new one is a bit different and is a better fit.
