My 1993 Protege finally died this week, and I am going to need another family car ASAP. I have put the RX-7 up for sale locally now, and the first $3,000 takes it. Still open to trades and trades/plus cash. I just need something with a backseat in it. Thanks.

I wish I could see the pictures at work. Where is Zanesville, OH? I'd love to offer my P5 plus some cash but it's very modified and doesn't seem like something you'd be after. Let me know though if you'd consider.

what the heck? why is everybody offering up there proteges for this car? i didnt know rx7s were in such high demand..
The thought of having an older RX7 that is in nearly (or what we think) perfect condition is just too appealing - I don't care if it's a TII or not. Personally I've always liked the FCs better (though I wouldn't turn down an FD) so this is almost a win-win situation for me, if I could ever go through with the deal (my P5 doesn't seem to really fit the "family" car the OP is referring to and I don't have $3000 lying around for a third vehicle). I'd love to pick this up and throw the whole Racing Beat catalog on it and just have fun. Keep it in great condition and hold onto it for a long time.

EDIT: To the OP, do you have any pictures of the interior/engine bay to confirm the condition?

if you'd take my mazda5 and take over the payments on it, i'd take the car off your hands ;) that or my 1997 miata

all things being equal, thats a real nice car.

I'd be temtped to give you 3 k for your car so you could buy this

LOL.. I don't think he wants to put money with it, he wants even trade or cash his way..
Well poop, I hope that's not the case. Sorry, my '02 P5 with 71k miles is worth much more than $3k without all the aftermarket stuff (like that adds value anyway).

I am totally open to an equal trade for a P5. I could even throw in a little money from my side. I don't care what anybody says on this forum, but in a few years a nice FC will be worth way more than a Protege.

Zanesville, is about 45 minutes east of Columbus. So if your interested, let me know. Thanks.

Still, in "poor" condition my P5 is worth $6k with the mileage it has on it now. Depending on the buyer, the aftermarket modifications might depreciate it some but not to the point where it's only worth $3k. The N/A FC's aren't collector cars just yet and you can't really bump up the price on what you *think* the car will be worth in a few years. Sure in a few years they might be worth more (and that is what I am counting on) but you're selling it now and you have to use today's prices (isn't this how the housing market got in trouble anyway?). You're asking price is more than fair, but an equal trade is not.

Honestly.. KBB and Edmunds dont give a damn about RX7's.. the value on an FC will NOT climb by their standards that much.. and no in 3 years the rx will not be worth more then the Pro5.. HOWEVER for a enthusiast.. sure... but then again we are not talking about that..

IMO people with RX7's ask way to much for their stock cars...

People always want to debate on here. Look, if you want the car its a great deal for $3,000 cash. If you want a trade we can go book for book with the lesser of the two parties making up the difference in cash. Either way its a fair deal, more so for a trade if you plan on keeping the car for a while. Down the road the RX7 will at least hold its value, and a Mazda Protege probably won't ever go up in value, unless it a Mazdaspeed or something.

My car's Book is about $4,000. If anyone wants a trade subtract that from your car's book and we can go from there.

^^^ Understandable but please post a link or some more details how you came up with $4000 for your car's book value. Not that I am doubting you but I used both KBB and NADA and neither were $4000. Granted, neither site has the option for an '88 GXL so I used what I could find instead.

KBB - $3,720 ('89) in "good" condition.
NADA- $3,437 ('90) for what they call "clean retail"

I use good as a standard practice for initial estimates mainly because I have not seen the car in person to make a better judgement. I also do not know the exact history of the car so that may affect final price. Granted, these prices are also for newer, different-series models, which may also be inflating prices, but then again I don't know all of what is in/on your car so the prices could be low.

For example, here is my P5 listed in "good" condition although I'm sure some aspects of it could fall in either "excellent" or "fair":

KBB - http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/Pri...rue|169639|true&Condition=Good&QuizConditions
NADA - http://www.nadaguides.com/usedcars....8&y=2002&c=16&vi=50043&z=45040&da=-1&mi=71000

Please do not interpret my posts as being hostile or argumentative. I'm just trying to present information from my standing. If you accept these prices and my car, I will glad go "book-to-book".

Here you go:
High retail is $4,900

My car is not perfect high retail, it does have some flaws, so I estimated the value about $4,000

your car isn't "retail" at all. You're not a dealer... I think you need to come down a bit unless you're going to compare against the same source for your trade offers.

against a 2003 P5 with 71000 on it, you're looking at 7300. Minus the say 500 for flaws/mods: 6800, or 2800 + your stated value for your car...

basically I'd say magnum is dead on.
