For Sale in Dutchess County NY - 03 Vivid Yellow Protege 5

I have A D D and have had this car coming up on three years - bought it with 21K on it... and it's time to try something else. The P5 has been my daily driver, I use it for work and it's worked out well. I have records of almost every dollar I've spent on it ( tax purposes ). My wife thinks I'm ridiculous.

Currently 108,000 plus miles ( mostly highway ). I just had the timing, engine belts and plugs done and fuel injection system cleaned - like last week - $ 674.00 - and got 34 mpg on my first tank since. Even that is not enough for me to not want to get this other car I've seen, though. However, if I'm not able to get pretty close to what I think I need to for this car, I'll keep it and run it, no problem. It's still fun to drive.

5 speed, leather seats, sunroof, 6 CD. Tasteful mods include tinted windows, DGM front lip ( painted to match ), B&M Short Shifter, Racing Beat Catback exhaust, Tokico Blue shocks middle of last year... the only problem with this car is that the ABS & Brake light on the dash are on... my guy scanned it but didn't come up with anything... my dealer said it's most likely a speed sensor and no big deal for him to find and fix, but I just haven't had the time or the inclination to get it to them and have them fix it ( and that's not like me ). But it is what it is and it's been that way for 3 or 4 months. The brakes work fine outside of that and they have plenty of pad life.

Currently on 15" steel wheels with Blizzak snows ( all four corners ). I'd like to get $ 5,300 for it this way ( with the snows on ), and considering it's overall condition and recent investment, I think that's a fair price. If you want the 16" OEM rims ( painted a pontiac grey I'm told ) with nice Toyo tires, those will go for an additional $ 200 for all four ( I'd like to keep them available to the person purchasing the car, and not sell them separately - yet - if one is wondering ).

The one photo ( left side ) shows the car on the stock rims - to give you an idea what the color of the painted wheels looks like. I'm hoping to part quickly with the P5, as the other car that I'm jonesin' for may too be sold, and I just hope not to miss it. But, if it's not to be, I guess there's always another coming along.

If you have any questions, my email address is dp993@optonline.net Thanks!!!Dave

Yikes... need signage...

Signage added - before the car gets any dirtier... did leave that one shot of the car on the stock rims, though, to give folks an idea how they look painted... thanks.

Also shown... rear fog light mod ( wired to ignition and switched ) and another pic of the car with the OEM painted wheels

Mpg

Well, my 2nd fill up since the tune up yielded a more usual 28 something mpg... so I must have made a mistake somewhere on that 1st fill up calculation.

I'm just saying...

Yellow P5

Thanks for the bump!

You know, I don't know if he did the pump or not - it wasn't mentioned on the bill... but he's the kind of mechanic that would have ( or at least would have mentioned it to me )... I'll have to ask him on Tuesday a.m. - I'm taking it in for an oil change... should have had him do the service while he had it between the holidays but all I was thinking about leading up to that time was getting away for a bit...

Anyone out there interested in this car??? Questions? Offers?

Nice little car for not too much $$$.

water pump dry

My mechanic told me this morning when he did the oil change that he didn't do the water pump when he did the timing belts the week before last. It was dry as a bone and no need to change it ( had it been wet, he would have ).

He told me that he doesn't like to replace things that aren't bad... and he hasn't been bitten by a problem like this - not replacing a perfectly good water pump - that he can ever remember. In other words, it's good to go.

New Pricing

It's been a couple of days and plenty of views... and I'd still like to find a new home for the P5... so maybe I can help move things along this way... New Pricing Until Further Notice ( and as long as this other particular car I'm interested in is still available ) - for Forum members - $4,600 for the P5 on the 15" steelies with the Blizzacks snows... and $200 additional for the painted OEM 16" aluminum wheels with the Toyo's. Come and drive it home...

ABS and brake light to get checked out Thursday

FWIW - I have an appointment at the dealership that I've used ( 25+ miles away ) on Thursday morning to have the illuminated ABS and brake lights taken care of

update on ABS / Brake light

S O L D.

After visiting the dealership this past Thursday, they told me that it needs an ABS pump.

While there, I've got new rear brakes and resurfaced rotors ( they were getting down there - so that HAD to get done ).

In speaking with another knowledgeable source later in the day, he says that it still might only be the speed sensor - that that is usually the cause of that light. And I plan on pursuing that repair - if it is just that.

In the meantime - and as this was certainly part of the original equation - the car that I was looking to get is no longer availble - so any urgency on my part for selling the P5 is certainly gone, at least for the time being. I am, in the near future, going to see if it it is just a speed sensor, or sell it - as is - at a price that acknowledges the amount of $ I've recently put into the car, and as long I am able to find something else that I'd be interested in.

Thanks for you interest.
