Front window chatter

The front windows in our '08 give out a quick chatter when you initially begin rolling them down almost as if the window regulator cables are loose and it has to take out the slack before the window actually begins moving. This occurs when the window is in any position...even all the way up. The car is at the dealer right now for the rear bushing tsb so I had them check out the windows as well. They said they pulled the interior panels and noticed that there is some looseness, but that it's nothing out of the ordinary. The rear windows are solid and smooth.

Has anyone else experienced this? I ran across this tsb for the MPV and it seems rather similar.

My opinion is that the feel of the power windows on the 5 is cheap, at best. I don't expect them to last very long. There are bigger fish to fry on these cars so I don't worry about them.

When I lower my driver side window from the fully closed position it looks as though it free falls for about 1-2 inches before it gets into a regular controlled downward motion. My wife's '04 Mazda 3 did the same exact thing. These sorts of issues seem to be traits of a properly working Mazda power window.

They definitely feel cheap. The rears are fine, though, which is surprising.

I know what you mean about 'bigger fish to fry'. I just ran across the power steering issue this morning and it has me worried since it's my wife's car and she almost always has our 7 month with her.

Sounds like yours is a little worse than mine, but it seems to be same issue. It's a shame they won't at least offer to switch out the regulators under warranty.

Mine did that the other day - driver's window only, about 3X. No other symptoms before & since. 35,000 miles & 4 yrs old, BTW.

It sounds like the parts that hold the window to me. I'd bet on it. I would expect a linkage issue to not go away at times. If the motors were the issue, the window would be slow or cutting out. I've never looked inside the doors though so I'm no expert on what's going on in there.
