Front rims really really hot after tire rotation

I just had my tires rotated after 5000km, and when I got home (only about 10km drive), both my front rims are really really hot - hotter than I have ever noticed before - the back ones are normal. Now I know that the front rims should be hotter than the rear, but is it normal to be hot enough that you can "smell" the heat when you get down by the tire??

I am going on a long trip tomorrow and just want to make sure things are ok?

Thanks

probably not...make sure they mounted them correctly (though I'm not really sure how you can screw that up...). You didn't have any weird clunks that would point to a loose lug nut or something would you? And you're sure you weren't riding the brakes?

I don't think you could get your brakes smelly hot if you drove 10km on a race track. It seems like there is something activating the brake; something causing them to drag. Since there is nothing in the front brakes you could hit or knock to create that problem I doubt its the rotation. On the rears, of course, you can knock the parking brake arm and cause a problem, at least in theory.

I would take the car to trusted shop who can take a look real quick.

No its that lube crap they stick on the rim before mounting the tires.. but if they were just switched then its probably from the brakes

jack the front car up, put it in neutral (with the back wheels blocked of course) and see if u can rotate the wheels freely or if they drag really badly

Yes, you absolutely can. See my signature for reference. That was after about 8 minutes of hot-lapping at a local course. And it was a fairly small course also. I was only breaking 80mph on one straight.

My rims are burning hot after almost every drive.

But then, I do tend to go flat out, sometimes, and a few really hard stops from 80-100 mph will start sending that awesome cooking smell into your cabin.

If anyone has evern driven Deals-Gap at the dragons tail then you know 11 miles 311 turnes later your tires smell like napalm.

Troll! You don't even drive a P5! :p

Dude, that picture's insane. How the hell did you do that w/o catastrophic failure? Was it the pads or were they bleeding fluid and that was burning?

Looked like he was using afterburners as front thrusters to maintain cornering... That's freaking insane... I want my breaks to do that!!!!!

Yeah....fire on rubber lines. Good luck with that... ;)

And before someone says "I have st3el bra1ded y0!", steel braided line is just rubber hose with the steel around it to prevent it from stretching, so that'll still die if it gets too hot...or on fire too much :p
