Front carpet grommets?

So I just received a set of weathertech floor liners and they don't fit as well as I had hoped. It seems like the right carpet grommet in the drivers foot well is sitting up on something under the carpet preventing the floor liner to sit down where it belongs. Is the grommet suppose to be attached to anything under there or does it just connect to the carpet?

These grommets/pins are attached to the carpet only. Usually the floor mats or liners have receptacles or humps to take these grommets/pins and keeps the mats or liners in place. Your WeatherTech liners don't have anything to accommodate these grommets/pins? If not, I seriously consider returning these as they are simply not quality made and don't fit well!

Funny you should mention that. I was just now vacuuming the interior and I noticed the hump under that right side grommet. I'm sure the pin is simply attached to the carpet and not anything under the carpet. I guess the hump is clearance for something on the underside of the chassis.

Well I investigated a little more about what's under the right grommet in the drivers area. I took the grommet apart, not hard actually, and saw that the air vent that runs to the back under the drivers seat is directly under the grommet. Mazda should have created a small indent in the duct work to better accommodate the grommet placement. I think one might be able to cut into the duct and place the grommet "inside" the duct but I don't know if I'll do that yet. I think I'm going to order the 3D maxpider mats and compare them to the weathertechs side by side. What ever one is the better I'll keep and send the other set back.
