Hey everybody,

I'm from Yugoslavia.... no, wait... It's Serbia & Montenegro... oh no wait it's changed it's name again. Probably just serbia now!? Who knows.

ANYWAYS!

I have a 6th gen Celica ST with which I'm very pleased but I've always wanted a (watch out) Lancer Evolution or an Impreza STI.

UNTIL I CHECKED OUT A MAZDASPEED 6.(cabpatch)

Now I'm working hard and saving up my money to hopefully get one by summer. They are very, very rare and even more expensive. Say 20k euros for a 3 year old model.

But it does come with everything I'm asking for: looks, speed, quality, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, etc.

Since I'm not in the opportuiny to track one down at the moment, would anybody from this fine audience mind answering a couple of questions which I forget to ask myself upon my test driving several months ago:

1. can you fit a snowboard (~160cms) into the trunk (boot)?

2. can the music head unit - receiver be replaced by something more modern, that plays compressed files and has bluetooth?

3. the hideous bose sound system. no offense to bose but to me it sounded wank. especially that useless little poor subwoofer in the rear deck. if nothing else can the setup be retained but the subwoofer amplifier channel rewired to a proper custom sub box?

4. rear seats folding down procedure?

5. snow+mountain driving experiences anyone?

6. ...ummm... that about covers it for now.

Oh.

A personal introduction? Is that necessary here?

I'm a 27 year old neerrrd, vegan, straightedge, animal rights activist, i like martial arts, lifting weights, and the company of the opposite gender; i have a thing for japanese sports cars and computers. Lots and lots of computers.

Nice to meet the lot of you, and now back to work to raise the funds for the MPS as soon as possible.

1. can you fit a snowboard (~160cms) into the trunk (boot)? No, Not without modifying the seats that will allow them to fold down. Mazda stiffened the suspension by adding two braces behind the rear seaats. With that obstruction, they just made it to where the seats won't fold. It can be done, with a few factory parts and a little improvising though. MS6 also have fixed points on the roof, so you can use a roof rack without drilling or clamping the rack to your rain gutters.

2. can the music head unit - receiver be replaced by something more modern, that plays compressed files and has bluetooth? Yes, but you will need to buy a dash kit. I believe Metra is the choice around here.

3. the hideous bose sound system. no offense to bose but to me it sounded wank. especially that useless little poor subwoofer in the rear deck. if nothing else can the setup be retained but the subwoofer amplifier channel rewired to a proper custom sub box? The Bose is terrible considering its supposed to be a premium sound system. There are several threads where people modify their systems to either get more bass or better sound. So yes, it can be done rather easily.

4. rear seats folding down procedure? See answer one. Remove trunk interior and youll see the releases for the seats. Go to a dealer and order the parts so that you can add a pull handle like normal 6s have.

5. snow+mountain driving experiences anyone? If your car has OEM tires, your snow+mountain driving should not be attemped. The Summer Only tires are not meant for cold temperatures or snow/ice. Get a good set of winter tires or even an all-season set, and you'll motor right along while enjoying your awd.

6. ...ummm... that about covers it for now. Welcome, and good luck finding your perfect car.

Hey Mush!

Thanks for the reply, even though I expected more people to come and say Hi (uhm)

I think I did not post my question about the snowboard clearly enough... I ment, can you fit it in sideways.. Uhrm.. how to describe it. Not throught the trunk, but like diagonally somehow stuffing it in. I remember the 6 has a big trunk so thought I'd ask.

And does the car suffer in handling and driving predictability if the rear bracers are removed?

what a bunch of wankers

Dude, it is a holiday...you might want to relax before declaring everyone lame for not answering your questions promptly.

You might be able to get a snowboard into the trunk...I'm not sure because I've never tried. It obviously depends on the size of the board, what else is in there, etc. The MS6 trunk loses some depth because of the bracing and covers over them, but the height and width are the same. So, go find a regular 6 or a MS6 and try to stick your snowboard in there and see what happens.

I wouldn't recommend removing the bracing...if you want to do that they go find a regular 6 instead.

welcome to the forums!

as far as your subwoofer question. yes you can hood something else up. there is a how to in the "how-to" section.

actually scratch that. its not in the how to section......... so where the hell did i find that? if i find the link i'll post it. really though just search, its out there.

Wow, jumping the gun, are we?

Mush answered everything pretty well. There's a how-to to install folding seat pulls like the reg. 6 has, that way you can drop the seats to fit a board (I have a 165cm that I carry occasionally). It was $50 USD for the parts, and took about an hour.

Welcome, enjoy the car.

Welcome!

I heard the Boss system cannot be modified, Head Unit, amp and speakers all need to be replaced.... Can anyone point a few posts out that describe these sorts of modifications... I did a search and came up with nada on that.

I personally find the car a little unstable in the snow but maybe that's my tires.... I used to have really nice Pirelli Tires and the Dunlop I got from the dealer are just not the same.

My board doesn't fit in the trunk without dropping one seat. You can, however, do this without any mods, you just have to remove the trunk liner and reach up into the rear deck for the little hidden lever.

Winter driving is great with winter tires.

Welcome to the forum, and chill out a bit, dude! :)

The opening for the trunk is not wide enough to accommodate a board sideways or diagonally. I tried with my 154cm board. If you could get past the opening then it would surely lay down in there. With that said, the board will fit in the back seat. It will not lay flat, but you can place one end of the board in the floorboard behind teh driverseat, and the other can angle upwards toward the rear passenger window. This will work as long as you don't need to add additional passengers in the back.

I wouldn't remove the braces...I am sure any changes in handling characteristics would be highly undesirable.

Mush in Post #2 pretty much answered everything to a T.

im also an avid snowboarder, i have done the drop down rear seat mod using stock MZ6 hardware and it is fairly simply provided a good set of instructions. because the one here is lacking original photos i reconstructed it here, pictures and all:
http://www.6crew.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10265

if you do this MAKE SURE you add the rubber edge guards, those braces have SHARP edges and will shred anything you put back there... i sliced my hand open on one before the edge guard!
