Fresh Tranny Fluid!

Ok guys just got the car back today from the dealership had the tranny fluid changed out to the MT90 redline fluid. I noticed a change right away but i noticed this evening that there was a tennis ball sized tranny fluid spot on the concrete.

I drove for a little bit and checked the ground again and there were no more spots. Does anyone think I need to check the bolts?

The way the fluid is filled is to pour it in until it spills out the hole. If a good job cleaning is not done, there would be some left to drip over time so some dripping could be normal. Having said that, I would certainly drop the under-tray and have a look, at least to clean up their sloppyness and check their work, plus see if it looks like it might be leaking.

Hey there rotus, thank you for the info. I actually called the dealership and explained that it appeared to have drained out close to a couple of table spoons of fluid. The dealership assured me that it would be fine to drive the few miles and they would double check it. The gasket on the fill was not sealed properly so they changed it out and torqued down the bolt again to ensure there would be no more leaking.

Jay take it it back and have them throw it on the the lift and of course explain nicely the puddle and your reasonable concerns. I am very cautious with garages till I know a mechanic well enough to trust him. Please report your opinion of the different mounts for the rest of us. I am deciding what mms I should use too. Edit a little late with advice but sounds like you are ok!

Man, I can't get over how useless and careless those mechanics/techs are... Incredible...

Just more reason to do fluid changes yourself. I find it really hard to understand how you don't tighten the fill plug well enough.

Yeah I have to agree that I was a bit upset over what took place especially since it was a very seasoned tech who did the work. I guess mistakes can take place, I am just glad that i was able to catch it quickly. I feel that Mazda should take special care to teams work on specific vehicles like the speed in order to prevent mistakes such as these from taking place. Luckily I am pretty anal.

went to mazda dealership the other day to get the 25000 miles check paid $75 for an oil change!!! that's cause the fluids werent topped off, and the hinges werent lubed. It's ridiculous. I called them back that afternoon and told them about it. the guy tried to tell me maybe it's not needed. I told them it's under the minimum line that's why i had it in and told him maybe it wasnt checked at all. he told me to come in and they'll do it. Can u believe that?

How do you document that your oil / tranny fluids were indeed changed if you do it yourself?

I like the idea of doing it myself and all but what if there's a problem and the dealership tries to claim that the problem was or might have been a result of not doing an oil / tranny fluid change. How would you prove this?

Also, when you are at the point where you want or need to sell the car doesn't it help to have documented proof that all maintenance was preformed on it?

Not trying to be an ass or anything I just honestly want to know.

I agree! I must say in contrast with Mazda, when I took my car in for service at VW I never had any concerns as to whether or not they were thorough. We should not have to worry about whether or not the correct work is being done and being done properly, we should have piece of mind!

On a side note, the redline MT-90 feels great in the car and coupled with the new inserts that I have coming should be a pretty nice combo. Next up is the Corksport exhaust.

If you keep the receipts for the oil and filters that will do it.

Yup exactly. I keep a notebook that I list all my services in and then I have the parts reciepts to back it up. Although I buy my parts on the internet in bulk. Like I bought the ten pack of oil filters from tonkin so the dates on the reciepts won't match up to the service dates but it should all make sense to the person buying the car.

Okay, this sounds doable and legit I suppose.

Maybe I'll start doing my own maintenance as well

It is rather tedious but at this point probably very necessary. I take the car in for servicing due to the fact that I am in the office at 7:30 am and leave around 6:30 in some cases, it is convenient to take it someplace and have her worked on. But the thought of having someone else screw up my car creates far more anxiety.

Yeah you know I just wish these ******* techs would do their job right!

There should be cameras set up in the waiting area so that you can see what they're doing to your car. This might motivate them to actually do the job.

There was actually a post I read in a different thread where this guy goes to a shop that lets you sit in the car while they work on your car AND they have cameras under the car and around it so you can see what they are actually doing...now that is piece of mind
