Fresh off the press.... MS P5!?

Like always, they always say not to say anything! But my local Mazda dealership is sponsoring my club so I've got a little chummy with the Mazda rep for Hawaii. He said that since the presales for the MSP were so good that yes they will release more in the US and that they will be producing a MS Pro 5!

I was like wait a minute, I never heard of this yet! Not even a rumor of it. He said that somewhere in mid year 2003 they will release it with all the same goodies as the MSP. I'll let you guys chew on that little morsel of info. Try and ask your local reps cause he may be just blowing smoke up my ass but then again if you think about it the Protege 5 is one of there best sellers this past year and it would be so easy to retro fit everything onto one. Hmmmmmmm!

It would seem logical to do, but here is what I would like to see on such a car:

All wheel drive with GTX style locking differentials, turbocharger or higher output NA motor, rally-tuned suspension, top mount bike rack, steel cargo floor, true fold flat seats, six speed manual.

Ok, damn, we can all dream.

same here white zoom zoom... I think I will be asking for a refund for the car I just bought like 3 months ago.....which if my newest problem with the car isn't fixed could be a possibility. Hmmmmm if thats the case I wonder if they would be willing to do a dealer install of the msp goodies on a standard P5.... I know fat chance in that but we can hope right?????

actually now that i think about it...that would suck...it would just make our cars seem a lot slower...and i know i can't afford it...damn...

this would be nice....but I tell you what....I will believe it when

1. I see the information posted on the Mazdausa site....OR
2. They actually show up on the showroom floor.

Just seems like something that would be too good to be true.

yes it makes sence.....I just don't see it happening right now.

Actualy I heard abou the MS pro5 a while back when I bought my car in 2001, the thing is they don't wanna advertise it or admit it yet because it would affect the sales of the Mazdaspeeds right now. Makes sense to me. But yeah Mazdaspeed is now part of mazda, and will be coming out with lots of different mazdaspeed variations of mazda cars, that's why Mazda bought them.

Not that I know anything more

But I wouldn't expect to ever see a MS P5. I would love it but I don't hope for it. Reasons - Already known that Mazda will do Ms versions of the 6, Miata, and then RX8, probably in that order. By then P5 might be discountinued in favor of the new 3 series. Maybe then we will see a MS 3 series wagon. I am certainly not holding my breath over it. Maybe about the time my warranty expires The MS 3 wagon will be out. Geez, it will be just like BMW model numbers by then.

I am referring to what I know abuot the new car that will replace the protege. It will share platform construction with Ford. I thought it was going to be out in 2005 or so. I just wonder why they would develop the P5 into an MS model if they are slated to be replaced. By the time they do a MS P5 it should be time for the new series. In a way I hope I am wrong. It would be nice to have a 200 hp turbo P5.

I find it very hard to believe that Mazda will produce a Mazdaspeed Protege5, if for no other reason than that no one will pay more money for a Mazdaspeed Protege5 than a Mazdaspeed Protege- the sedan will handle better and go faster if for no other reason than it weighs less and is a more rigid platform than the wagon. The current price model at Mazda puts a premium on the wagon over the sedan. Why pay more for a performance vehicle that would be inferior to a performance vehicle of the same brand? As much as I would like to see a Mazdaspeed Protege5, I just can't see that happening.

Mazda has said there will be a Mazdaspeed 6, but I wouldn't hold my breath on a Mazdaspeed 6 wagon variant, much more likely to be the sedan or hatchback.

There will be a 2003.5 mid-year model change and the colors have been discussed here already. I've also heard that the front fascia will be changed on the mid-year release as well. To those that are grousing about "too many" Mazdaspeeds, I believe they will always be a relatively limited number as it allows for less strict emissions regulations on limited release vehicles.

audi did it...and did it quite successfully with the s4 and rs4 in europe

Mazda is not Audi, and Audi is really a different target audience. Mazda is really trying to become about affordable performance. I'll be happy to admit I'm wrong since I do not have any data to back me up, but I believe the point still stands that the s4 would be more performance oriented than the rs4. That is to say, drivers being equal, the s4 driver would have a decided advantage over the rs4 driver in weight penalty and handling capability.
