FP-DE/FS-DE alternate OEM spark plug recommendation

Try turnin down the sensitivity meter. Some people do have 1.8 setup & it would be just pop off the 4 wires like you said. It was for clarification not some ethug bulls*** towards you............

If folks need threads about how to change spark plugs to begin with then I'm going to assume they're going to need very precise instructions was all......

So who has the ZFR5F-11 with the 1.8l coil mod? im thinking of runnin this combo until the turbo is on then go with ZFR6F-11 and boost :)

I was thinking that the 1.8l coil mod and long reach plugs would make for a nice spark and maybe better gas millage.

Had the ZFR6F-11 in for a little while. had the smoother throttle response and no lurking for a short time but then lurking came back and i lost the smoother response. I then changed them out for the ZFR5F-11 and i still dnt have the smoother response and no lurking back. any ideas here?

i had my friend drive my car cuz my dad said he could smell alot of unburned fuel in my exhaust, and he was right. if i switch to a hotter plug, would it help at all? i'm using the ZFR6F-11 plugs right now

EDIT: i looked on wikipedia and it said if the plugs are too cold they wont burn all the fuel and will develope carbon deposits and will eventually foul. so i switched to a hotter plug, we'll see if this fixes the problem

I do know for the carbon issuse all u would need to do is redline it every now and then. IIRC the 6's toned down my exhaust a tad bit compared to the 5's. Drove 7 hours with 5's and i had a splitting headache. Gonna maybe swap in my 6's for my upcoming 8 hour drive

I redline it more than enough (drive2) haha. I didn't notice any change in the sound from the exhaust but I did have to reset the ecu again cuz it would hesitate between shifts under heavy acceleration. The plugs that were in before the #6 heat range plugs were in longer and they weren't half as bad for carbon build up. So far so good, but I'll take one of the new plugs out after a few more tanks of gas to see how they look compared to the old ones

didnt make much a difference for me either. it did at first but only for like a week or so then back to what i was used to. altho for some reason, the 6's feel better than the 5's, like more pull or sumtin....maybe im wrong. i've had both in my car for over 1000 miles each and they look about the same. dnt think theres any fouling

if i reset my ecu with premium in the tank, i can hit the 300km mark by the time i'm half empty. then if i run a tank of regular, it messes it up so i get crap mileage next time i run premium

I think ur suppose to run premium gas if u use the long reaches. i have a mp3, so i gotta use premium anyways

Ever since I put these plugs in, they are out now, I have engine ping at about 50KM/h and 70KM/h its pretty consistant and it has not gone away despite me removing the plugs and it was never there before. I have done nothing about it till now but it seems to be getting worse, more pings and louder, so I am going to have it checked out. I will try a full tank of 91 octane to see if it goes away.

i've given a few places the product code for the NGK zfr5f-11's..i don't know if their lookin it up for my lx, but when they look it up do i need to tell them to look under the 1.8 engine or what? cause their not able to find the plugs or anything. i'd really like to purchase these asap as it's about that time for replacement...

just tell them you want plugs for a 2001 protege with the 1.6 liter - they are stock for that engine

I noticed yesterday when I had my windows down, that there was a rattling sound coming from my engine occasionally when I accelerated. It was only audible when the sound bounced off a wall and I could hear it through the window. Does that sound like pinging? I've no idea what pinging is really supposed to sound like.
