Four Racing seats?

I was thinking about buying a couple stock ms3 seats or 4 racing seats and putting them in my ms3 in place of the full size seat in the back.

Just out of curiosity, does this idea seam realistic or is it just stupid?

If anyone has done this please post pics.

I wouldn't say stupid... just not for me. I do a lot of snowboarding, and the ability to fold down my seats isn't something I could part with.

And TBH... we already do have pretty fantastic seats (in the front at least) already.

why would you want to do that ?
reaar sears are very comfy :P during long rides...
and long drives.

I don't know how you would mount them without having the headrest touch the ceiling. I've had the rear bench out of my car, and the seat portion is just a foam bench sitting on an elevated portion of the chassis (and I assume over the gas tank, so good luck welding brackets).

You would be correct in your assumption. The gas tank is located underneath the rear bench.

If having them match is something you want you could always have the stock rear seats recovered to match whatever seats you decide to go with in the front.

ive seen this done on a few show cars back in the late 90's what they usually did was add materiel and padding to the stock seats to make them look like racing seats.

Well the gas tank only goes up about 8in from the rest of the frame of the car so it wouldn't be too much higher than the rest of the car. Plus if I did do this I would redo all the flooring in the car, Take out the fake floor in the back and possibly put in a CF floor of some sort. Like mentioned in a couple of the comments, The part I am worried about is the mounting and how they would fit as far as head room.

Well my stock seats are already racing seats... I was thinking of possible trying to get 2 more stock ones that look the same, since they already match the rest of the interior.

I wouldnt say the stock seats are racing seats, but they are more comfortable and have better support than most seats.

i dont think you would be able to fit 2 front seats in the back. what your talking about would be very expensive. not worth it in my opinion.

if your in so cal i know a place that would make your back seats look like your fronts. in the way i described above.

maybe instead of getting 2 extra seats, you can have a shop make custom padding to match the fronts, but just using the factory rear seat. or if it's possible to use the factory rear bottom cushion, and factory back of the front seats and somehow combine the two.

If you don't mind me asking; what else have you done to your car so far? I see you have a low thread count, so I would assume you either just got the car, or just started taking an active interest in tuning. Regardless, the idea just does not seem too feasible. If you have not done any other mods then I can't imagine why you would want to start by hacking the flooring of your new car to s***. You will not only waste time and effort into getting it done, but also money when you go to re-sell. Plus, where do you plan on relocating the gas tank?
I say, keep dreaming, and spend that money on something with more benefits - like some go fast mods.

You also have to take into account the mounting point for seatbelts.

not to mention the changing position of the passenger could be potentially dangerous for if the rear curtain airbags go off.

just some things to consider.

it is just stupid.

If you start hacking out the floor you are going to cause some major problems. Not to mention you are going to have a great time if you ever get in a serious accident with the car. Your friends and your insurance company won't think the racing seats in the back are so cool when the car crumples around them and crushes them because a huge section of floor was replaced by some carbon fiber. There's no way to know if it will be as strong or crash worthy as the original floor because you can't test it. That's why OEMs crash a few of every new car they make. To find out if the design they made is really as safe as they thought it would be.

Not to mention how it will negatively affect the handling. If some people can feel the flex caused by cutting a hole for a sunroof, I'd imagine cutting a 2'x4' section of floor out would be quite a bit worse.

Good initiative though. Just direct it toward some other idea.
