I've been itching for a droptop since we got rid of the Miata, and I noticed MONTHS ago, that one of the little used car places here in Athens had a 5-spd VW Cabrio. The Cabrio is not my favorite car, but it's a relatively cheap, very available 4-seat (vital, with the baby) drop top. I never went by to find out what they wanted for it, until today. While I was there, they mentioned that they had just gotten in a Miata, I asked what year and they said, '93, Black, with RED INTERIOR.
OMG, so I went to the back lot to check it out, and sure enough, it's a complete but somewhat rough '93 LE, one of the rarest of the 1st gen Miatas. It has 121K miles, a newer top with a glass back window, the original BBS (crazy light) wheels with the center caps and the factory aero-kit. The MSSS sound system is there, but the H.U. is looking a bit rough, and the main speaker grill on the driver door is bumped in and a bit rusted. The speaker surrounds are in good shape, as are the door sill plates. Paint and body are mostly good, but there's a scuff on the right rear fender and a bad spot in the paint on the trunk lid. The passenger seat is perfect, but the driver's seat is completely worn out on the left bolster, and would need completely re-upholstered or replaced. Generally, the interior is rough!
Sales dude said the manager wanted 5200-ish, but that it could go for 4500 or so. I'd consider it for 2, maybe 3k. While I'd hate to kill off a limited car, it could be a good project for someone to make a race car out of, as you could sell the good bits of the interior, since people always want the red stuff, sell the soft top since a racer would use a hard top anyway, and either race on the super light BBS wheels, or sell the set for most of the cost of the car!
Anyway, the car is at Automax in Athens. I thought I'd throw this up here in case anyone was looking for such a machine. Let me know if you want me to find out more about it. I think it's overpriced for the condition it's in, but the dealership has no idea what a rare car they're sitting on, so it could come way down in price!
