Forget the Colbalt SS

VW R32 is weaksauce... dsg only, soft suspension, blah. It surprised me when C&D thought the R32 was better than the STI in their 3-way comparo.

The real comparo would be 08 STI v. MS3. Then 08 STI v. lightly modded MS3. If you're gonna take on another "hot hatch" it might as well be the hottest one out there.

btw, the new Cobalt SS is a decent car... don't hate on it. Yeah, it won't be as successful as it could be since it needs a better look. But it sounds like the old USDM Focus SVT... a rare great sports compact car from a domestic car company. You don't have to buy one, but you should quietly root for it.... in hopes that it will spur your fav car to become better. At least that's what I think. Why dislike a car simply b/c it threatens yours (assuming u own a MS3)?

Oh and they didn't test a Cobalt SS at all. It was a MS3 v. R32.

Don't sleep on the DSG. The DSG is actually pretty sweet... very sweet.. lightning quick upshifts (quicker than a typical manual tranny), perfectly rev matched downshifts... IIRC it is not an automatic tranny, but a manual with automated shifting and clutch. I have driven a VW R32 and an Audi A3 with the DSG and was very impressed.

Other than that, the R32 is weaksauce (from a performance standpoint... comparatively speaking).

+1 on the DSG, and I was impressed with the R32 suspension as well, much better damping than a stock MS3. The sound of that six is also very stirring. The tranny has no torque converter, just two computer controlled clutches. If the difference had only been a few thousand, I would be posting on a different forum....

lol! Well said

"For not too much more money" over the $32,000 it already cost. How much more is not too much more money? My guess is an adiitional $3,000 worth of mods. So, it takes VW and a tuner $35,000 to put 4/10ths of a second on my $21,000 Speed 3. Take my Speed 3, spend $3000 for upgrades, pocket $11,000 and wup that Vdub.

Scott.

The R32 is a better car than a MS3..not faster and yes it costs more. but they shouldn't even be compared....and DSG is the shiz. might be the start of manuals becoming non-existant.

not trolling here. I drive a GTI and the wifey has a mazda 5. I love the MS3 and I drove a couple of them. nice ride no doubt. late

Not trying to stir up anything, just wondering why you think its so much better?
I would definitely prefer being able to shift gears the way I do in an ms3 over the dsg stuff, that's just my preference. I'm just wondering what you have to say.

i test drove the GTI before i bought the MS3 and all they had was the DSG. I had to admit, the DSG is a great system, the upshifts are fast and the downshifts are very smooth with rev matching. When your on a hill, you can feel the car still wanting to roll back and it automatically gives it a little gas to keep you from rolling. The only drawback in my opinion is that the paddles are coloum mounted so when you turn the wheel its a little harder to find the paddles. Overall a great car, but after i drove the MS3, it was clearly the more fun car to drive regardless of the shifter feel. I'm happy with my decision.

The evo X dual clutch system is proven to be faster than the evo X gsr 5 spd on a track, with that in mind if i were to get an evo x i think i would still go for the 5 spd.

R32 is a better car than a MS3? Glad you think so, considering you own a GTI this doesn't surprise me a bit. Shouldn't be compared why? The R32 is like 9grand more!!! And still can't keep up the 22k Mazda. You are talking like the R32 is a superior car because it cost more and comes with a Sissy-matic (DSG) R32 in my opinion is an over-weight turd that is overpriced and there is no reason why it can't be compared with an MS3.

What are you going to compare it to? An EVO and STI flat out embarrass (spank) it even more so than a MS3 does. So I don't understand your argument...

As for manuals becoming none existent... That's going to be a fat chance in hell, true driving enthusiast know that there is no replacement for a true manual gear box. These DSG transmissions and what have yous take out a lot of skill that would otherwise be involved- this sir is gay (ghey)
