Forge BPV Question

So i installed my forge v1 bpv yesterday, and put on the blue spring with 2 shims. I still here a slight sputter in higher rpms. Im running a cobb sri and tip and thats it. Should i move up to red?

I maybe wrong, but if you're getting a sputter or flutter sound then it would seem that your spring setup is too stiff? I'd say remove a shim or both and see how that works.
I'm running the blue and two shims and I only get a slight flutter sound every once in awhile, usually that's when I clean and relube the forge and it goes away.
Have you cleaned it lately?

nope, never cleaned it. Got it like 2 days ago off a local craigslister. How do i get about cleaning? Just take the cap off and get the inside?

I ran the (IIRC) yellow spring with two shims on my setup (SRI, TIP, test pipe) with very little flutter and that was very rare. Isn't red the strongest, then yellow, then green then blue (descending)?

green is softest, then yellow, blue, red is stiffest.

i got same DV valve for my CX-7 and now i got this whistling, like an hks SSQV. i tried first just the blue spring, the first day there was no whistle, then i installed two shims, after that it started whistling, removed the shims and it still does it. i know a whistle can mean it's not opening all the way. i just put the yellow spring in there to check, the whistle is still there but not as much, and it dumps a lot louder. i dont know if the yellow spring is going to let it leak or not. im gonna add a shim or two and see.

I must ask WHY you guys replaced the OEM BPV with an aftermarket version that doesn't work nearly as well as the OEM? It (the forge) will require constant maintenance (cleaning and lubing) to function as well as it can, given the piston design and spring/shim-preload setup. I'm not blowing off (pun intended) as I have run the forge along with several versions of TXS before I realized all the hype about crappy OEM BPVs was just that, Hype. FYI, the car will run better with the OEM BPV.

I took this into consideration tonight. Dug up my OEM BPV and found it was missing the o-ring. Made one out of some spare hose from the Corksport TIP&SRI. And threw it back on. I agree it does run much better. No flutter (which I was having quite a bit of) And it doesnt seem to stumble anymore....I have no idea if that would of made that difference but it's smooth as butter now. BTW I was running the Turbosmart BPV. I am going to still look for an OEM o-ring, the one made was pretty crappy looking. But it seems to hold boost and pull hard.

Thank you for reporting back with this info. I wish others would do the same!

i dunno, i'm running the yellow spring + two shims on my cx-7 and midrange picked up some torque. i'm not hearing any surge either. only thing is the damn whistle.

id have to agree, you aint gonna be picking up torque with a new bpv.
only way things change is if your original stock bpv was faulty/leaking.

placebo affect mate.

i like the sounds my bpv makes. :) ricer much, but my stocker actually had my car feeling about the same when i put it back on for a day... i really couldn't tell a difference in daily driving except for the fact that my turbosmart flutters at low boost

Are there sound differences to the BOV and the BPV? Are there any reason to even get a BOV over the BPV?

Someone correct me if I am wrong. The BOV is louder since it vents to the atmosphere. The BPV is louder than stock, but the MS6 runs best in Recirc (BPV where it recirculates the air blown off back into the intake) Some you can run it 50/50 half vent to atmosphere, half to recirc. But people complain of issues with backfires and it not running right in VTA (vent to atmosphere) I don't think it's worth the hassle to run VTA or 50/50. Which is why I went with the Turbsomart BPV. It's just a direct replacement for the OEM BPV. It's said to hold boost better, which if your stocker doesn't leak it doesn't matter anyway. And it looks more aesthetically pleasing. But like FORZDA1 said, the stocker does just as good a job alone. And it requires NO MAINTENANCE, NO TESTING OF SHIMS and all that BS.

If you put a CAI or SRI on there, do you hear the Turbo Spool better with the OEM BPV? Or does that not make any difference whatsoever?

I have a CX-7 and wondering if I should put the CPE CAI on there. I'm trying to get some better gas mileage out of her.

Yes, you definitely hear the turbo spool with a SRI or CAI. I haven't noticed any gain in MPG with the SRI though.. Actually stayed the same.

Yea, Kinda figured it would be negligible. Thanks gixx. You've been a great help today!
