Forge BPV - more boost / lowered ninjas sword fighting noise

I have MS3, turbxs fmic, ms-cai, forge bpv. THe forge has been pretty loud and I decided to try something to quiet it down a bit. Here's what I did: I stopped at autozone and bought a pack of Fel Pro Gasket Material: Cork-Rubber; 1/16" Thick ($6 bucks); I took off the forge BPV and traced the outline of the valve on the gasket material. Cut the gasket out with a pair of sissors and re-mounted the forge on the car using the cork-rubber gasket (along with the normal o-ring). The valve noise is reduced AND I now have over 1 more psi of boost! My thinking was the all metal forge valve on my all metal hot pipe was amplifying the sound, therefore the cork-rubber should help isolate the metal on metal. It worked!!!! It is still a bit annoying but definitely better than before, now there are only 3 ninjas sword fighting instead of 4! Not sure why I have more boost but I do.

Interesting. Did your BPV not come with a gasket at all? Mine had a small formed gasket similar to the one the stock unit had. Is it possible that extending the unit 1/16" was somehow similar to adding a shim? Guessing here, but maybe that's why the boost went up?

Hmm, wonder what would happen if you used the stuff as a shim... probly wouldn't be a great idea though. I can see it now, little pieces of cork getting sucked in the engine.

first off I did get the forge o-ring and I never took that off even with the added gasket, secondly the shim goes inside the valve BEHIND the spring so there's no way anything from that side of the valve will get sucked into your engine (if you are going to try putting something soft in place of the shim).
