the GTO failed also because it had the "GTO" name but not the look people were expecting.... this pissed many die hard musclecar fans off

in part, yes, but if it was a good car the name would not have deterred a buyer. instead it was just an OK car, then combine that with its name and the fact that it's just a rebadged aussie car representing an american icon and you've got some tough sales

what annoyed me about that article was the ford exec's response to the author...esp about how why the new focus wouldn't sell here. basically, he said that it's too nice and too well-made, so american buyers wouldn't go for it.

right...look at how the cobalt has been killing the 3, MINI, civic, and corolla in the market. people sure do love their cheap-feeling, poorly-asembled subcompacts here...way to go, ford. keep on selling the deal instead of the product; it's worked beautifully so far.
