Ford Escape 1.6 EcoBoost on Consumer Report's 10 Least Reliable Cars list

I know a bunch of us have cross shopped the Ford Escape before we got our CX5's. Now you can give yourself some credit for not going with the Escape (1.6) because it made it onto CR's 10 least reliable cars list. (cheers)

I thought the Escape was a great package, but turned away from it due to it's reliability issues when it was first released (had a few recalls for leaky fuel lines within the first few months it was out).

I am pretty surprised by this. I drove a rental Escape recently for several days while on vacation and was very impressed with the build quality, especially the interior. Although I am certainly very happy I went with the CX 5!

My dad was actually "lucky" enough to rent the new Escape when we first got the CX-5 (busy with different plans), a week and a half into the rental the company calls us to return the car because its being recalled.

We have a 2012 Escape at work, it's astounding to me how crappy it is. I honestly cannot believe anyone would look at that overly complicated, hideous dashboard and buy that thing. Plus, it's had parts literally fall of it (door weather stripping) when it had less than 500 miles on it. The SYNC system is the most user-unfriendly piece of software engineering I can imagine. It took me a good 5-10 minutes to figure out how to pair my phone, unlike my Mazda which was clear and intuitive. I dread driving it, the other car we have is a Dodge Caravan. Given the choice I choose the Caravan every single time.

Ha, I saw this the other day.

Does feel rather gratifying, given I chose the Mazda. Of course, when I bought my CX-5, the new Escape hadn't released yet.
Even so, owning an early build 2013 CX-5, and virtually no issues with it, it really looks like Ford missed the reliability mark w/ their first m/y gen 2 Escape.

The Kuga has won NO group tests in the UK, so even if it was reliable its not rated as the best to drive.

a big hit for Ford with 5 out of 10.

No kidding!

Having 5 Fords (out of only 10) on the "worst" list is atrocious!

Mazda? Zero!

I remember early in the CX-5 debut, many were throwing reliability doubts around like they knew something the rest of us didn't.

I'm driving a new rental Escape today (my cx5 was broken into this weekend!). It's an OK car. The steering is a little numb and overboosted and the engine is weirdly quiet. The suspension is OK but softer.

I'm not a fan of Ford's recent electronics and user interface. They're a little too toy car for me.

Really not surprised. Ford in recent couple of years has not done well with new product launches from quality/reliability standpoint, beginning with 2011 new Ford Explorer. Nice cars, but if reliability is a top priority, look elsewhere.

My mother in law has one that I drove to Virginia. No place to put your left foot and the upper dash has multiple seams that do not line up.

Too bad for Ford because they have come out with some very nice automobiles in recent years. I wouldn't want to see them go the way GM did.

I found the tire noise with 17" continentals distracting, and the engine note a bit untuned.

I did like the white LED cabin lights though. Each passenger gets their own and they function as the overall lighting when opening doors.

One other thing I liked was the rear headrests fold forward with the press of a button so they clear the front seats when the back seats fold down.

I have taken to simply removing my back headrests in the CX5 as they hang up on the front seats. This isn't ideal though as there's no storage nook for them in the vehicle. Fold down headrests seem like the way to go.

That's a good feature that they got from Volvo (when Ford owned Volvo), I had a '07 Ford Explorer with that feature.

I had a guy walk up to me at Lowes and ask how I liked my CX-5, he had crossed shopped both and went with the Escape and is not happy with his choice. His is getting 16mpg, his company owned Escape hybrid is getting 30mpg which is about what I'm getting with my CX-5 :)

I liked the look of the old kuga, but it was too small for me. The new version is a better size, but the styling has gone backward.

I have no problem with the Ford Escape exterior styling, it looks good to me. The CX-5 has the nicer interior and reliability of course.
