For those who've removed the Roof Rails ...

I have a question ...

My dealership is having trouble specifying which parts fill in the gaps in the vinyl molding, where the roof rails would be. Does anyone know the name of the parts or their numbers?

The parts guy gave me a price of $69.00 per molding ... but he thinks that that part replaces the entire strip. He found another part called "endcaps" that are about $5 each. He's confused ... so am I. Please help! :D

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

I may not be much help, but here goes.

My 03 had the rack on top. When I pulled the rack off I had these plastic caps that snapped in where the rack bolted in.

I have plastic rails that run down the roof line. I can pull off those caps and reinstall my luggage rack at any time.

I have seen pictures of pro5's without the plastic rails and just have rubber or vinyl inside the groove that runs the roofline.

My endcaps were included with the car, but the salesman had no idea what they were. He thought they might be 4 extra door sills.

Also search ebay for protege and see what you get.

Right, I'm looking for the name and/or number of the part(s) that fill in the 'groove' where the roof rails used to be. I'm looking to remove the entire roof rack set up ... cross bars & rails ... and filling in those grooves. Thanks for the input :)

I remember someone posting the part numbers for those quite some time back. Maybe a search would yield some results.

I'm looking to completely remove the rack as well, though I have no idea how to do it myself. I'm not exactly mechanically inclined. Do you think the dealer could take off the rack?

yes, they could ... but they'd charge you for it. You can remove the racks yourself, but it involves removing the headliner from the inside of the car. It shouldn't be difficult, just time consuming. There's a protege shop manual floating around that details how to do it.

Hmm ... after some digging around, as suggested ... I found the part #'s for the roof rail lining (thanks SirNuke!):

BJ3D-50-9L0D
BJ3D-50-9H0D

I contacted my local Mazda dealership and they told me they're $69.00 each!! :( Is that what all of you paid for the filler pieces ?

so you are going to tackle removing the headliner and all huh? You should do a "how to" for everyone. ;)

:bs: I'm kinda hesitant to take them off now... I don't exactly relish having to pay $138 + tax + shipping, just for the filler strips. :wtf: That's almost an injen CAI right there.

when i bought mine everything came to 130, thats still alot of money.... espically when your friend tells me he has some left over from his mom's p5 that i could have for free

Does he still have them? I would be interested in buying them if they are.. Might as well make some of that money that you spent back... ;)
