I am back to working out again and I was wondering if anybody here buys those tubs of protien powder to mix with water/milk. Is there anything to look for when buying that stuff and does anyone recommend a certain brand?

I am not looking to buy stuff with Creatin or anything like that, just straight protien. I have a GNC in bottom of my building here in NYC and there is a TON of different kinds of this stuff. Back in the day I just used to buy this IronMan Protien from Pathmark and it seemed to do a decent job.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Yeah was planning on going all natural (ie no supplements) but I figure I could get a lil extra this way. Thanks for the gas resonse! hehe, can get the gym to myself if I make it smelly enough...........

protien is all natural... you body needs it in order to build muscle.

I take met-rx meal supplements because they have tons of vitamins and metals that your body also needs and a nice dose of protein. Its not over kill and keeps my healthy i havent been sick in a while. Best tasting too.

If your looking just for protein i suggest whey protein... GNC brand works great. They sell it in huge tubs as well. Its the best protien i think for the price.

Thanks for the info. Those supplements, are they like those snack bars, or is it something different. I think I will go downstairs in a little while and buy a big tub of some GNC Whey Protien. Thanks man!

the meal supplements are shakes... they come in little packs and normally sold in a box of like 50. Just pick it up and compare the two, also pay attention to how the sales guy comes off... some will just try to make the extra buck off you.

a dexatrim, multivitamin and a slim fast shake in the morning

then a few protein bars throught the day

"lose weight and eat great" :)

my only problem with that is i laugh at guys who drink slim fast. So much more can be done with simple cardio and a proper protien shake. Along with lots of water. I used to drink a gallon plus a day.

Its also impossible to build mass and loss wieght at the same time, it can be done but not to the effect that doing one at a time can do. A lot of people make the mistake and put themselves it carbolic shock.

i know it was kinda a joke, however i can lose weight real fast on that diet...think i need to get on it for a few weeks, i have my "winter wieght" going on now and spring is just around the corner:)

what's carbolic shock?

Slim fast is so ****** tasty BTW

basicly when your trying to lose wieght but your body needs its energy to build the muscle and have you function and it cant find anywhere to get its resources.

i was just saying slimfast is not for people trying to build muscle.

How do you know if you are in carbolic shock? Isn't that like what atkins purposely puts you into?

Sorta... atkins is not for people with a workout regmin. They suggest cardio but thats about it. They suggest a diet called the zone or some s*** for peopple with working out in mind.

Ive put my body into the shock slighty and shrunk my stomach like wise... i lost 20 pounds in 4 weeks which really isnt healthly as 2-3 pounds is what is reccomended. Its extreme situations of shock has been described to me as high dehrydation, weakness and none of your food sits well and can put you into the hospital

**** atkins.....work out, take MET-RX (the best brand by a long shot, Iv'e done the research) and eat high protien, high fiber. Works great for me.

I work at a health food store (not GNC, though) and I also recommend whey protein. And the store brand, for instance GNC, is just as good as any name brand. About eating a few bars a day, I'm not so sure. You have to be careful because a lot of them are loaded with sugar, and don't have as much protein as you'd think. We sell a Tri-o-Plex bar that's pretty good, but it's still kind of high in sugar....just be sure you balance everything.

Oh yeah, and Atkins is crap. No one should go on that diet, imo.

Just my two cents though.

Yeah, atkins sucks, the bad part about atkins is you ignore fat intake, and sat-fat in particular is real bad. I did atkins for a while, then I realized it was shitting all over my liver and my cholesterol levels. Now I eat a low sat-fat diet, and I'm thinking about joining a gym, a new one opened up nearby and I hear it's pretty cheap.

I started the gym about 2 1/2 months ago. took it easy for about a month and now since mid feb, i've been going 5 to 6 times a week ... i just started looking at those supplements like last week. this is some great info thanks guys.

The stuff they sell at my gym is called Myoplex (or something like that) .. comes in little packs. it comes up to about 3 to 4$ / each ... i was planning on buying a box this week.

What do they usually taste like ?

myoplex is alright but if i remeber right its just energy and s***... Whey protien is best.

Protien, multi-vitamin and flaxseed oil is what i take right now. I have a done NO2 in the past and i recommend to anyone looking to build up quick. I never felt so healthly and i just moved up from a plateau i was on before.

myoplex is not good....but some people like it

do you have a smoothie king around you? I work there, and we have a drink called the Power Meal, which has the myoplex pack in it. It might be good for you to try that...I've never made one at home, but it had a weird consistency when I tried the smoothie at work....

hmmm...didn't see you were from canada, so you probably don't have a smoothie king....never mind! :)
