For those who have done n/a mods

you know what man you just brought up something that has been killing me......the other day a smart car tried to race me and i was in the middle of town so i didnt want to go crazy but those damn things are fast

he took off on me before i knew we were racing and then i try to pass him and we got to 85 and i said F*** that ....and my girlfriend will not stop talking s*** about how a smartcar beat me in the big bad P5 that "ive spent so much money on"(smash)

wow really? i live right next to a Smart dealership and they mess with people all the time. he couldnt beat me though and im stock.

although people do hayabusa swaps into Smart cars. pretty damn cool if you ask me

i could have beat him but he went by me at like 75 and i was doing 45 so i was trying to catch him and when i was close i was doing 85 so i stopped cuz the speed limit for the road was 45 haha too big of a ticket for me

Agreed. And so we have some choices here:

1. Get a faster car.

2. Mod the car heavily.

3. Mod the car slightly.

4. Get over it.

#1 costs the most. #4 costs the least. #2 has a good chance to lead to #1. And #3 requires part of #4.

Everyone's choices will be different depending on their personalities.

That said, I'm at #3 for now, but saving up for #1.

Someone on another forum I'm on has this in his sig.

"FAST. CHEAP. RELIABLE. Pick two."

thought it was funny :P

turbos are fun...but i liked my n/a mp3 better than i do my msp.

Here's what i did to the mp3...msp mods are in my sig...

injen cai
obx header
2nd cat cut out
b&m short-throw w/ kartboy knob
twilight's n/a cams
1.8L coils w/ 626 valve cover
UR underdrive pulley
kartboy shift bushings
awr front a/t motor mount
side-exit exhaust
CP Racing 3-pt strut bar

yeah, the msp is faster, but the mp3 was just a fun car...start with the standard bolt-ons...intake/header/exhaust...if you want something 'quiet,' get a racing beat cat-back...once those are knocked-out...then you can do the other stuff...just my opinion. you'll have more fun if you upgrade your suspension than you will with the HP mods...i did.

hey, i jus got some headders put on and am now gettin a check engine light.
its come on about 4 times now and for the same thing.
i got the guys at autozone to check it out and the code pulled up as somethin bout a cataylist.
im guessin cause there used to be a precat there. ive been gettin it cleared but it keeps commin back. i dont think i have anythin to worry about but don like the fact that i keep gettin a check engine light!!!
Any ideas?
Thanks

search for the 'non-fouler' mod...you're 2nd o2 sensor is throwing the code. it's easy to correct...all you need is a wrench to take out the o2 sensor and a drill...it'll probably take you around 10 min. the only thing i noticed when i had a CEL was decreased gas mileage...you're probably running VERY VERY rich.

link for the how-to:

Quoted for truth

This car is NOT straight line fast.

If it's just for around town and your doing it for your own giggles, do an intake, header, midpipe and catback as well as an MP3 ECU and VTCSless intake manifold

and just enjoy it

if that doesn't do it for you, keep saving pennies for teh Mazdaspeed turbo setup, but, be warned, any and all modding is a slippery slope!!

hey, whats the deal with the VTCSless intake manifold? what is it, how hard is it to do, and how much would it cost me in the end?
Thanks

if you have the time/tools to remove your intake mani...all you need to buy is a tap, bolt and some quick steel. so...$20 at most.

take off your intake mani...you'll see butterflies where the air enters the head. remove the butterflies and the rod they're attached to. tap the hole on the outside of the intake mani and put in the bolt...put quick steel in all of the remaining holes left by the rod the butterflies are attached to...sand it down so it's nice and smooth and put it back on your car. there's a how-to in the how-to section of the forum...there's a ton of stuff in that section you can do for little or no money.

Removing the VTCS is the easy part... removing the Intake Manifold is the hard part.

I did mine by myself and I was expanding my own horizons mechanically, my advice... get a buddy and label everything, ziplock bags are your friends. Oh, don't forget the PB blaster.

Other than the amount of stuff you take out to get to the intake manifold, it's not that difficult, I just wouldn't recommend for anyone to remove their first intake manifold alone.
