So this is sad but it was my first own oil change on the p5 yesterday. I've done a lot of other work on her before but not an oil change just didnt seem worth it when before. But I got a torque wrench and everything. I was just going to let the people out there with not a lot of tools, like me, or atleast without a full socket set, that my drain bolt is a 16 mm not a 19 mm like some people have said on this website. Maybe cause its a 2003 or idk. Also if you plan to do it for the life of the car prob worth getting a oil filter tool and a crush washer for the bolt itself. Otherwise it's very easy, like 20 min job with jacking included.

Oh and if you have some problems with manual sticking when hot, I advise castrol gtx, it definitely helped my shifting out a lot, I think it's a good oil with thermal degradation.

Interesting on the drain bolt size, because I have 2003 and it's a 19mm, like others have said. Perhaps one of the previous owners/"technicians" who've worked on it before replaced the bolt for some reason.

Yea,... my drain bolt is a 19 mm. That 16 mm is an odd ball size as well.

All the nuts and bolts on this car (with very few exceptions) are 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 and 21 mm with nothing in between. If you think you're needing an 11 or 13 mm it's probably a rusty head keeping the 10 or 12 from fitting.

I keep the 8, 10.... 21 mm sockets and wrenches separate,... they are the only ones I need.

(I'll bet you a shiny Canadian nickel that 16 mm socket won't fit any other nut or bolt on your car)

Could have sworn mine was a 16mm... Ill have to check. I go through an oil change every month so ill know in 2 weeks

Wuss. Bet real money. :p

On topic, I'm pretty sure mine is 19mm but it's been just long enough that I'm kicking myself for not doing it yet.

Idk it seems like a few people have that problem. Maybe its just my trans oil. But when its really hot outside or if i've been driving my car for over 30 min or so, the gears just become impossible to smoothly shift into. Like first and second are sometimes impossible to get into. Im sure its not oil based, but that my trans is just done. But for some reason switching from penzoil 10-30 to castrol 10-30 seemed like it made my shifting smother and easier. Probably sounds dumb but it really did.
