Fog lights

I'm curious, where are people coming up with these statements on what is illegal and how someone will be ticketed for lighting? I have no doubt that there has to be some sort of written federal/DOT regulations, but I think some on the forum are stretching them.

In my mind if red lights were legal, or other colors for that matter, then manufacturers would be marketing them in the US, but alas I fail to see anything but white and orange/yellow.

I have been running blue led parking lights for a bit now and have never had a cop ticket me yet, not to mention I live a few houses down from the Sheriff.

I am curious and would like to see the federal rules on vehicle lighting restrictions.

hi i have an 08 cx-9 GT Copper Red. I just replaced the front sidemarker bulbs to the red LED ones. I would like to change the fog lights to the LED one as well. My question is what is the max power that the wire will handle. I was thinking of geting these ones http://www.v-leds.com/Exterior-LED/DRL-LED/White-LED/V-LEDS-6K-HID-WHITE-28-p7662651-1-2.html. what do you guys thing will i have any trouble? thanks

do not bother. LED consumes 80% less energy than halogen or xenon.

US rules more liberal than european ones.
In europe : at the front only white. At the back only red. turnlights only yellow.

In the US, any color besides clear or amber lights in the "front" parking lamps, amber in the "front" turn signals or amber and/or red in the "rear" turn signals are illegal. Lindyrect, the fact that you have not being ticketed yet for having blue LED bulbs in your parking lamps is mere luck. CX-9s are not cop targets, of course unless you are speeding, so most officers will overlook the fact that you are running illegal lighting. It really depends on the officer if he wants to be anal about giving you a ticket. Most officers will never say anything or at the most give you a warning about them, unless of course the officer is having a bad day and wants to be a d!ck about it. As far as your Sheriff neighbor, who wants to have an enemy as your neigbor Sheriff or not.

If you look at the fine prints of those selling aftermarket lights, it says "for off-road use only".
Why? Because they were not approved by DoT, i.e. you could be ticketed. If you have not, count your blessings.

Yah, so I started looking at some US transportation rules and federal statutes. It seems that replacement lights have to be the same as the original type lights. They even have to be stamped with the same numbers that are stamped on your headlight lens cover. Also not strange enough the only colors authorized for US parking lights and fog lights are white and yellow. Europe like stated before is white only. Guess I will keep my original parking light bulbs in the glovebox incase I get pulled over. Maybe I can make a simpathy plea and install them on the spot.

Blue or Red lights

Here in Vermont the law states that if you can see a red or blue light from the front of your vehicle and you don't have a permit for it (as in fire fighter, EMT, or police), you can get a ticket for it.
