Fog Lights

Anyone installed the OEM foglights on their 5?

I'm thinking of adding them and wanted to know if any of the wiring is already installed?

Thanks,

I have the fog lights already and I can tell you that with the HID beams on, turning on the fog lights make almost no difference in lighting. Don't waste your money on the OEM's. If you really want fogs instead of HID's, go aftermarket and get something that projects a decent light beam.

The OEMs should be pre-wired, but (and it's a biggie), to install OEM fogs, you must remove the front bumper. I was looking into it and decided against the install. I just cringe at the thought of breaking a plastic bumper clip....

Thanks for the info; I think I'm going to install aftermarket fog lights vice OEM, cost will be less, look just as good and lighting may be better. I'll take pic's of the install and post them here. I'm planning to use the fog light covers on the car to support my install, probably going to do it this weekend.

Looking foward to see.(cool)

Piaa?

Anyone has PIAA foglights installed in their 5? I have a set laying around but not too sure if it will fit, I think it will be much brighter and better than factory!

Fog lights

I don't know if it is just because I did not spend 200$ + on fog lights in the past, but on all vehicles I installed fog lights on, they never last....

They get rusty, they crack or the bulb just blows after a couple of months... Altough, I got the original installed on my previous 03 Sonata, and got my 5 GT (that came with original fog lights, and they last and last...

I would be a bit scared to install after market fog lights and not the original ones...

As for the HID, I put both HIDs on my low beams and fogs but as a guy was saying, it is true that it does not make a big difference... Fog lights are not too useful.. I've put the HID most likely for the looks...

I had a set of "Hella 500" lights on my Montero. (The 7" round ones you see dozens of on rally cars). Those babies would totally light up everything, but were probably what killed the alternator. Anyway I wonder how those would look crammed onto the 5's nose?

I appreciate my low level OEM foglights. While they came on the car, and I didn't car if I had them or not, I use them all the time.

I have kids and when I pull into a friends house, or through a drive through, I always turn off my HID's/headlights to save the person in front of me. I know I appreciate when people lower their lights for me when I'm in front.

When I pull into my garage, I always drop the HID's and run w/ just fogs/parking lights into the garage.

I like 'em.

these lights will work well for you. I applied PIAA foglights and no problem at all.

What model PIAA foglights did you install on your 5? Any pictures? How did you mount them? I'm looking to put some cheaper foglights in for better side visibility. I was on a really winding road - I couldn't see past a curve since there is so little side spill from the lights.

Well, I'm finally getting fog lights in my 2006 Mazda 5 - I can't find aftermarket anymore since the car is so old - so have to buy oem lights. So word of warning, if you want cheaper fog lights buy them before your car gets too old.

I'm just buying the light kit - not the switch - I got cheap and added a radio shack switch - tapped the fog light wire in the existing light stalk. I wanted to buy aftermarket lights, but I can't find the fog light bumper inserts for a reasonable price :-(. I'll post a write up once I'm done. I'm going to try to put HID in the fog lights.

Where would you put the ballast for foglights? I got the yellow HID kit and I don't want the ballast getting weathered.

funny you should ask ... there is a lot of room under the bumper

Where did you get your HID kit from? Did you have existing foglights?

Driver's Side - added twin horns and mounted ballast at same time.
