Fog lights for 2003.5's

Ok, kind of Mazdaspeed related:

If anyone has some suggestions for Fog lights for the 2003.5's, place them here. Any info regarding where to get them, price etc would be great help to us future 2003.5 owners.

Canadian links would be a GREAT help to me. :)

HIDS, clear lenses, different sizes all welcome. Everyone has different tastes.

Remember, the stock fogs "may" not fit because of the new lower lip. We wont know, until it's too late.

IMO, there's a possibility it could fit. Since the new lower lip can't be that thick, there's some room to fit it in there nicer than our current protege's. Why do i say that?..

well... If you never notice when you wash or dry the car in the area where the fog lights are, there's this space or gap where the fog lights meet the bumper, and i would guess that it could fit.

If it doesn't sit as nice as the current Protege, you can always just let them sit out a bit further, since the stock mount is pretty deep in, there's plenty of room for it to move forward....Just my though.

Where to get them? for sure, your local Mazda dealership should have them. But i wouldn't buy from the dealership because of high mark ups. So with something different.... HIDs would be sweet if you can find a fog light lenses that size.

I was thinking the same thing. Mentioned it in another thread actually. The lights are really deep inside the bumper right now. It's going to be close, but I think it'll still work. If remember correctly from changing my bulbs last, there's still quite a bit of room on the stock fog for it to unscrew a bit and come out a bit further. The rod that attaches it to the bumper is fairly long.

Yup....
Should fit then... Just thinking about it, the lower front lip can't be that thick, so there's room to play with in terms of depth to mount them.

When i noticed the gap where it meets the bumper and the folights, there's a lot of dirt build up just behind it...is there anyway i can get that dirt out?

Mounting Hardware?

I know that there's probably nobody who has looked at a 03.5 close enough to see whether the mounting points from the 03 will still work for the 03.5 car, but I thought I'd ask. Do you think we'll need to fabricate special mounting hardware?

Like an idiot I forgot to look at that when I was at the NAIAS is Detroit. Maybe if any of you guys up in Canada see the Titanium car at the Toronto show you could look (Grimace?!) :)

Not sure if what I just said made sense or not, Just a thought.

I will definately look at the 2003.5 at the T.O. autoshow for you guys. Just tell me how the fogs mount in the 2003 MSP, MP3, and P5 so I know what to look for.

*crossing fingers that Mazda actually brings the car to the show*

By the way, they are only bringing 1 RX-8 to the show, and its on a rotating pedestal with no one allowed to sit inside, so don't get your hopes up...

Will the intakes be open and act like brake cooling ducts if we don't jam fogs in there?

Good question. Here's another - could we route cold air to the intercooler from the foglight cutouts? I don't remember how close the intercooler is to the driver side foglight opening.

I'm guessing the intakes are fake. No difference in brakes, so why wouldn't they be. Clearly they took them out to keep the car at the same price since they added the new lip( more $$$), new muffler ( more $$$?) and so on...

I don't doubt the intakes (foglight cutouts) are fake, but what is behind the cut-outs? I've never taken a good look. For example, in my current car, it is just a piece of black plastic that can easily be removed. So, if this were the case in the MSP, then its conceivable one could make up something to either route cool air to the brakes, or even easier and more beneficial, route cool air through the intercooler. It isn't the largest of intercoolers, so this would be a worthwhile mod if it is possible to do, and inexpensive. Cheaper than a waterspray anyway. I'm concerned about heat soak during hard runs.

I don't see how the lip is making a difference in how large the shole is? The lip is on the bottom of the vallance! Isn't the whole the same size? Maybe someone can post a side by side photo?
I hope the fogs will fit! By the time I sell my truck I might have to wait for an 03.5 and it just aint the same without the Fog lights!

This pic shows that the 'lip' does in fact make the foglight hole smaller.

I wonder...

I've seen the thread with the pics of the yellow paint on the Miata that has the "sparkles" in it and it has been suggested that this is the paint that will come on the 03.5 MSP. I was wonderin, why don't I see sparkles in that pic of the lip.

Maybe it's just the lighting, etc but it seems like you would see some if it was painted like the Miata.

Kinda off topic a little... sorry Grimace. :) Nice pics of the fronts of the 03 and 03.5 though.

MAN, I hope if I decide on an MSP I can just avoid the whole fog light issue by still being able to get a Black Mica 03. :)

I like the 03.5 valance! I never noticed how the entire bottom section looks like it is glued on. But you can only see the seam where it goes into the center grill. It is a lot smaller, thanks for the photos.

AltimaSE, I think it is just the lighting. It looks like it was around sunset when that photo was taken. I don't like that time of day to take photos of cars. Now models on the other hand, that is the best time to do shoots. The sun does funny stuff to paint jobs at that time.
