hey, im looking to buy a fmic for my mazdaspeed protege. dont want to spend a a$$ load of money. what would be the best band for the buck and what is the easiest to install? what are the gains of a new intercooler?

i would probably go with the hiboost or begi kits, especially if you're looking for an easier install. Or if you want it even simpler, go with an upgraded SMIC.

For me, the IC upgrade made a big difference because of the heat in texas. Big difference, even though my wastegate actuator is fuxored and i'm not holding boost real well. I'd definitely say its worth it.

sweet. im gonna get a fmic i say in the next month or so, installation is no probelm i have all tools needed and could even fab parts if needed i just want somthing easy so i dont have to pull my hair out and so i dont have to have dad help me thus meaning he knows i have it and then leads to the why the hell did you pay all this money for somthing this stupid ya know what im sayin

ha, werd. The MAM was a bit of a headache for me, for a couple different reasons. From what i've read, the hiboost would be alot simpler.

Hey does anyone know where i can buy these parts,

2" 90 degree couplers
2" 90degree U bend (aluminum or steel)
2" to 3" silicone adapter
2.5" to 3" silicone adapter

all for the fmic installtion

and why is the greddy type s bov so damn expensive =X

There is a used hiboost FMIC in that link i put up... its at like 300 bucks right now... maybe more since i posted the link! thats a damn good deal! And the hiboost FMIC is actually a pain in the ass to install. The directions suck and it takes a while to adjust all the pipes so everything fits exactly. Took me and a friend about 6 hours start to finish.

well, FWIW, my MAM took like 10 hours just to get all the stuff together, with me and several other people working on it. I still had to deal with the intake (they didn't include the right part), and the bumper fitment after that. So it sounds like the hiboost is easier, lol.

I installed a perrin fmic about a month ago and it was fairly easy to put in. I bought it used so there was no instructions and it took me about 4 or 5 hoours by myself.

should i really stick to buying a name brand one or would i be ok buying a $150 intercooler and then $80 piping. how much is the difference in the gains? how much harder are they to install?

I would just buy a used one from the forum. then you wont have to waste alot of time trying to match up pieces bought from ebay. I think it would save alot of headach. depends on how much money you are willing to spend to I guess.

Another thing to consider is that if you buy just some ebay IC core, you don't really know anything about it, or the design behind it. With my MAM fmic kit, i know i get a garret core, which has lots of R&D into making sure the air flows well and still achieves good cooling. You don't want to buy a core thats going to give you alot of pressure drop due to bad design. Not nessesarily saying go for a MAM here (you probably couldn't find one unless you got the timing right and bought it used), but i AM suggesting that you either go with a used kit thats been proven, or do your research and don't just assume one thing is like another.
