okay, i seen a post about fixing your own rims before but i was wondering if anyone LOCALLY has done this to their own rims before and if they have, if they could give suggestions to me.

i curbed my rims last night on the lip. about 1/4 of the lip of the rim is scratched up, but the actual spoke is okay.

so yah, im just looking for anyone with experience with fixing their own rims.

NOT where to fix them.

thanks :)

peace

hey i just seen you last night on ward. but yeah you could sand out the scratches but aren't your rims gunmetal or something? so after you sand them out, you'd have to repaint them or get them powdercoated. i've fixed quite a bit of rims this way. all you need to do is take some 150 or 180 grit sand paper and sand about an inch and a half past the curb marks and after you get them painted, it'll look flawless.

My mom did this to my wheel. I fixed it myself and it turned out very well. What I did was I sanded down the area that is scratched until all the aluminum that was rubbed is within the contours of the rim. Next you want to take a small wire wheel to clean any paint residue still on the wheel and it sort of softens the edges of the metal. Now fill in with bondo what isn't there. Depending on the severity of the damage you may have to do a little sculpting. Then simply spray or airbrush the area. You may wish to go as far as clear coating and wet sanding to blend. I had a damaged silver rota wheel and I happened to have some of the stock sunlight silver metallic spray (www.paintscratch.com). The color was close enough that from five feet away you couldn't tell where there was damage. Give it a try it's really quite easy. I did two wheels in one afternoon. For those of you with strange wheel colors I would go drive around for a stock car color similar to your rim and then order that color from the above website

yah my rims are a simple silver color and i think the paint i used to paint my callipers match the rim color. i have been too lazy... well, to scared/pissed to look at the damage. i have only felt it that one night, other than that, i havent bothered to look at my passenger side. i shall post pics when available.

once again, thanks to those who have responded.
