Fishdonotbounce's 2008.5 CWP Speed3 GT "Build" Thread

Well it's been a little while and there are some updates. I caved in and bought Ryan's (zoomdoom) Hypertech. The car is completely different. The tune is perfect to me.

On another note, I've had issues in the rain with the car where it would get squirrely at highway speeds. I found out why on Saturday morning when I took my wheels off. The car was out of alignment and the front driver's side tire was down to the belts on the inside. Evan was kind enough to give up his alignment appointment at the local tire shop and after putting on the winter wheels, I drove over and got it aligned. I was planning on buying new tires for the 2nd gens anyway since they were balding. After some preliminary research, I am really liking the General G-MAX AS-03's. I had Generals on my P5 and liked them and the tests and reviews on these specific ones are great. The price and tread wear ratings are exactly what I'm looking for the daily drive. Considering the fact that I've driven almost 18,000 miles in 5 months, I need something that won't wear quickly but will still be fun.

I also washed, waxed, and back-to-blacked the exterior of the car. I cleaned the door jambs and everything. The car looks great, feels great and is just great haha.

I will take pictures tomorrow to show the carnage of the 2nd gen's tires, the car with winter wheels and tires, and the alignment sheets.

Did you just dial it in to factory spec or do something different? If different lets see the numbers :D

Lulz. How do you like the back to black stuff?

I forget, which wheels are your winter wheels?

The back to black stuff looked great after applying it. I'll let you know tomorrow of my final impressions lol. My winter wheels are tire rack sport edition wheels. I can't find them on tire rack right now so I'll snap a pic tomorrow.

EDIT: Just realized there's a pic of them in the thread lol

Haha I didn't do anything special. I just wanted them to make it all green so that I'm in spec. My toe was way off on the front driver wheel. The camber was a bit much too. I like where everything sits now.

Here's the dyno graph as well. About time I posted it. This was before the Hypertech. I expect the curve to drop off a lot less and be just a tad higher now with the HT. I'm very pleased.

Also, here are the pics of when Josh and I undercoated everything and sealed stuff up. You can see the black calipers really well here.

And finally, a couple random shots of the car that I really liked.

Does the car track straight now? I had my car aligned in the spring and ever since I did I've had to drive with the wheel slightly turned. Bugs the hell outta me :D

Can you take me for a drive in your car now that it has the HyperTech? I really want to feel the difference.

Also, how much was the under coating stuff? If it's not too expensive, I might want to do that.

Oh derp, lol, I even asked Evan what those wheels were last time I was over. Having no short term memory rocks.

Lol yea. Here's a pic on the car with them.

I have a friend with these (not a Mazda, so opinion may not be valid) and he loves these. Has had them for 30k+ and still have good life.

Thanks dude. I'm probably going to go with these. $428 for a set of four, ranked top of the tests, great reviews. Can't beat it.

ewwww

that curve is naassty

What do you mean? The drop off after 5500? Or something else I'm missing?

You know I think it tracks straight. I'll double check tonight and tomorrow.

I'll definitely let you tag along but after winter. I don't want to go too crazy with these winter tires and wear them quickly lol.

1. yes the massive drop in power in the upper revs
2. your AFR's are way WAY too lean in the lower part of your curve (near peal tq) you should drop to mid 11's immediately

Stock tune will do that to the power curve. With the HT, I expect that to be a lot better. The AFR's were measured using the tailpipe probe. To my knowledge, they always read high if you're still catted.

they read about a half point higher

which means your running 13.0 at 4k rpm.....not good

look a the difference between you and me in AFR alone

Hmmm that's not good at all. I'll have to keep an eye on that and see if it's better now with the HT. The car was on stock tune. Maybe it wasn't keeping up? Thanks for pointing that out. I feel dumb for not realizing it sooner.

I've been drooling over these wheels for a couple months now so I decided to photoshop them onto the car. Not a perfect photoshop but it gives me a good idea how they'll look on the car. If I can sell my 2nd gens, I'll be picking these up. They are BBS wheels. They look super shiny in the picture because the photo I used had them in direct sunlight and the photo of my car that I used wasn't so things look off.

sell your 2nd gens? hmmmm....

I thought I was subbed to this but guess not. It's hard to tell on the photoshop but I'm sure they would look good

I've seen that one before. I think they were originally green and he painted them. They look great. I'm going for the hypersilver with machined lip look. No crazy colors lol.
