Gonna go ahead and take my speed in for the first time, 1050 miles on it. So far, I think the hesitation is pretty major (you should see it in 1st gear, the bucking, hilarious)... gas mileage sucks (290mi), definately hear the "clunk" every morning backing out of the drive way, and going over some of those manhole covers at gas stations. Also had that "clatter" from the rear deck (where the speakers are) when I bought the car, the guy put in a strip of that coushiny stuff, fixed it for a while, but it's back now. The hub/rotors have some spotty rust on them. I told the dealership all this, and they are going to get all that done.

Besides asking them to check on the coolant leak thing, should I ask anything else? I guess it's too early to get my first oil change.
 
ya I'd wait until around 3500 to 5000 miles before you change your oil for the first time...
 
Early oil changes are good, and I don't think that 290 miles is that bad. Mileage is supposed to improve on cars after they have been broken in.
 
i changed my oil after 1000 miles and again at 4000. I do it every 3000 miles with synthetic- it can't hurt anything. I have just over 6000 miles on mine and i still get about 275-300 miles. Guess i like to get on it!!!
 
i would change it at around 2000. that was what my dealer told me the "break in" would be. i have been changing it with synthetic at 2k since. but then again i am kinda anal about stuff like that
 
I would recommend changing it at 1000 and putting regular oil in. Don't put synthetic oil in just yet 'cause it's too slick for the engine's break in period. At 3000, I would say it's safe to put in synth.
 
I've always been told by both my father and my automotive teacher back in hs that when you purchase a brand new car, the oil that comes with it from the factory has certain additives in it to establish proper wear patterns, and to leave it in as long as possible, but then again, it could be old wives' tails...
 
if it makes you feel any better my gas mileage has dropped badly since it got cold out. This car sucks for gas mileage in the winter and that even with me shifting before 3000
 
The oil that's in your car new is plain old dino-juice. Not synthetic and no special break-in additives. Same crap the dealer will put in at the second oil change. And every one after that.
 
They usually don't care if you bring your own oil do they?

I was thinking to get some royal blue sinthetic?
 
I have a hesitation question, my speed also bucks pretty bad in 1st gear, but after that it pulls without a problem all the way to the redline in all the other gears. The salesman said the car was flashed before it was sold, but it could be bs. Has anyone bought the MSP that was already flashed or is this just "dealer" talk?

Yeah, back in the day, they used to use non-detergent oil in new motors for the brake-in period. But that was back in HS in the ***ahem late 70s early 80s ahem fuch im old*** but I don't hear much about it now. I remember using in in my 64' Fairlane when I put a brand new motor in it. Guess oil has changed since then.
 
Not sure if mine was flashed or not, I am assuming it wasn't cause of the "bucking" in first, and the hesitation going from first to second, or second to third. It's so bad in first that I can't drive slow in that gear...
 
you sure that by "bucking in first gear" you don't mean "wheel hop through first gear 'cause the pedal is mashed down?"

no trying to be mean, but hesitation in only one gear, in a flashed MSP, seems really odd. Wheel hop in a MSP, now that sounds about right.
 
nah... I mean if I barely hit the gas, driving real slow in first, it will buck like mad. The other "hesitation" occurs when re-engaging the gas after switching gears.
 
First gear is very sensitive...it only takes a tiny amount of throttle to make the car jerk foward....it takes practice to get it smooth. Maybe this is the problem?

That 'quirk' has been well documented in the P5 as well (probably common to all proteges?). It takes a VERY light touch to drive this car slowly in 1st/2nd without it bucking.
