Fine.. 5th gear.

Who knows what rpm range they are in running 80 mph non flashed in 5th gear on stock wheels? I run about 3700 rpms now... I could have sworn at 4k rpm before I was running 80 mph. Sorry in MSPs question unless the other proteges are gear'd like the msp.

Yes, same gear ratios.

And you do realize that the fact of it being flashed or not flashed has nothing to do with the rpms, right?

anyway, in my P5 I'm at 4K rpm going 80mph

The flash won't change the rpm. MPH if a mechanical function of RPM+gear reductions+tire diameter.

The computer cannot alter these.

Why would branden and i be running lower rpm's than you at 80 mph? I think that being flashed made my speedometer change..

Your gear ratios do not change whether your car was flashed or not. The gas pedal position might change and that's about it.

So when my rpms are at 4k in 5th gear on stock tires and im going about 80++ mph im really only going 80?

I know they don't change but im trying to figure out if my speedometer changed since its electrical and not mechanical.

Maybe the dealership reset your tire pressure while it was in there. But that hopefully wouldn't make a 300 rpm difference.

Well say that they did mess with my tire pressure what about Braden which is running 3500 rpm at 80 mph or in that matter the guy that posted running 80 mph at 4krpm. Thats what I use to run is 4k rpm at 80 mph.

Humm... that is weird. I mean, I guess your RPMs could still be correct (there's no way to change that), but your guage is just off. I don't know exactly how that works but I guess you could have something here. Makes you think

What type or wheels/tires size are u running on?

The speedometer is independant of the tachometer, it uses a speed sensor in the transmission. The flash will not modify any of those objects related to the speed.

The factory tachometer is actually off by around 300rpm after 2500rpm. I do not have the flash in my car, nor am I running the factory ECU. I normally shift out of 3rd gear at 80mph and that is close to the factory tach redline.

Next time I go for a drive I'll run 5th gear to 3500 on my haltech (precise reading) and let you know what the MPH is on the speedo.

Interesting so When I do the 1/4mile again and my tach will say 89 mph in 3rd gear ill really be doing 85 mph again?

MP3 RHs with Yokohama ES100 215/40/17

They match my stock tire sizes pretty well.

I have heard about the fact that RPM readings are inaccurate after a certain speed...

HondaToMazda - I'm REALLY not trying to sound mean here, and I already entertained your thread yesterday...but seriously, PUT THE BONG DOWN!

I explained yesterday that NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR CAR, quadrupling horsepower, putting on skateboard wheels, etc WILL NOT change how many RPM's you're running at a certain speed (speed according to the speedometer). PERIOD, END OF DISCUSSION. it is a LOCKED RATIO. Think of the gears in a watch. the hour hand moves 1/12 of a revolution for every revolution of the minute hand. It's LOCKED. If you made your watch run 10x as fast, the hour hand would still move 1/12 of a revoltion for every revoltion of the minute hand.
