Finally installed a CX-5 boot light!

I didn’t like dim boot light so I installed led strip! I was thinking of changing the original one to led but I didn’t like the light at the back as it’s making shadow. It is quite bright so I am happy with it!

That looks awesome. Keep in mind those use 10-30W so the power draw is substantial if kept on.

Quick question, do you have a write up on how you wired this into the car. I’m interested in wiring some additional light into the trunk and was wondering how did you wired up so this way it’s only on when the trunk lift gate is open.

I have not, mine is still under warranty so I didn’t want to tap the wiring just yet. But you can tap the boot light wire by t connector and install additional wire to it :)

One day I'll get around to taking a photo, but what I did was similar. Same concept: remove the plastic panel from the hatch, tap some 14 gauge wire into the +/- of the existing (weak) lamp, run the wire to wherever you mount your lights.

COBs are usually far brighter than standard chip strips and they appear as a solid light tube instead of dot-blank-dot-blank.

Your lights look great, but I only needed to light my cargo area... not the entire neighborhood (just being silly - not mean). I just did a single strip across the interior at the top of the cargo opening.

I'm in the USA, so our resources may be different. Here's what I used:

It's 5m in length, so I ended up adding some dimmer switches and created an additional overhead light as I swapped my dome lights out for red LEDs. Also, under all the foot wells too.

They do get warm after extended use, but segmented into <1m strips will barely draw any current (I think it's 2.5a for the entire 5m length).

I love seeing these creative mods folks do! Great work, JB!
