Fiberglassing again!!

Thats right I am fiberglassing again.. this time I am fixing the cracks in my sub box from my wreck back in June... and fiberglassing some phat door panel speaker boxes/ aesthetic grills... I cant exactly describe what the door panels are going to look like except its like nothing anyone has ever done before. A recessed cover that is backlit.

I am fiberglassing enclosures for the door speakers for better sound - a sealed box rather than open air.

sounds cool, good luck. can't wait to see the finished product.. love ur sub box so this should be sweet too.

thats why i bought self enclosed speakers.. so i didn't have to deal with all those small little sealed enclosures lol P.I.T.A. :)

Let us know how the enclosed speakers sound. The only possible problem with that situation isthat alot of car-designed mids are intended for infinite baffle use. Sealed applications do strange things to standard car speakers.

lookin good Ahmad, I know you'll take your time and do it right till you are satisfied its perfect.

For the design I am using I could have prob used those plastic ones - but too late now I guess. Plus this way is just oh-so-much more fun.. haha..

I'll be working on this some more tonight.. pics soon.

Those baffles are worthless in terms of making a sealed enclosure. Their only real function is protect the speakers from rain. Think about it, the walls of those "enclosures" will flex very easily and totally screw up the response of the speakers.

If your speakers are designed for a sealed enclosure, the fiberglass that this guy is doing is the way to go. Though I am not sure that enclosure is going to be large enough, or if alpine type R coaxes are even intended for sealed use. I guess he will find out when he hooks those speakers up...

Most speakers are not designed for a sealed enclosure. 90% of kickpanels will have the back cut out because it is very hard to tame the peaks that occur when they are sealed. You'll get better bass response but snare drums and other upper midbass will be ear pearcing and out of place. People who do the sealed door pod will use it only for lower midbass and use a separate driver for mids and highs.

...and those foam and plastic backings are useless. They vibrate and make wierd noises and are only good for keeping rain and moisture out.

Me? Mine are 8" IDv3's. They don't make the MAX in an 8" :( and I see no need to waist hatch space for 10"s or 12"s when 8"s will do the job just fine.

I have all 4 of these made for the doors, I just need to trim them up and attach them to the door panels.

My speakers werent designed for sealed enclosures but I have an idea of how to even out the peaks and such. Hopefully with the downtime my car will have now I can actually be home enough to work on these again.

try to find someone with a melissa analyzer to spec out an enclosure size for you. You may just find that your enclosures just need a port or something.
