Fiberglass Factory Tail Lenses

I am thinking about creating some Fiberglass tail light covers that would basically go over the factory tail light and then only have hole where the factory bulbs are. The idea is to be able to have it almost look like you dont have any tail lights, but still have the three rings on the factory tail lights visible so your tail lights are still functional. I know this is not a very good description and i am working on a picture to put up on here, but I was just curious to get some responses and thoughts. If there is enough interest and my beta looks good, I might consider selling these to help me pay for school and rent and everything, so if you guys (& gals) dont mind, please send me your thoughts and ideas on this. Thanks.

Not a great idea considering you're covering up illumination (your reflectors). I would be worried about being rear-ended. Also, the rear running light isn't just a circle, it's the top of the taillight.

My initial intentions were never to really drive with them on my tails all the time, cops down here are "stern about theri job" as it is (assholes). Of course once the initial shape is formed any shape can be cut into them for whatever amount of light you want to shine through. I just thought it would be cool to pop them on when heading out to some of the meets and seeing what kind of reaction i get when people have to double take whether i have tail lights or not, and of course on the cruising summer days I would probably put them on. If course, the design is still fully in the thought process. I have considered the amount of light restriction with the top section of the tail light...I think it will just be one of those things, where once I have the product on the car I will be able to gauge what mods need to be done from there.

P.S. - Vinyl would be a b**** around the shape of that taillight, plus it will more than likely not restrict light emittance in the areas you place the vinyl, essentially giving you a cheap finish look.

w/out sounding too harsh or too much ike an @ss (because I'm only guessing at the finished product), but isn't this concept already out there?

i've seen something similar to what you describe at AutoZone & AdvancedAuto in the tuner/APC section so i surfed the apc site really quick and found these... They offer them for a range of trucks and even have a part number listing for a p5:
"3414180SMK - Mazda Protege 5 02-Up Euro Taillight Cover"

Here's a pic of one of the truck styles, but they don't have a pic shown for the p5 model...

here's the site i got all this from... click on "products":

If you do have something different in mind then COOL i can't wait to see it!

there was a white p5 from japan with custom tail lights that looked like that. it was NICE

to be honest i think it looks better stock.... the USDM and JDM tails dont look bad at all how there are

Just have a body shop paint on the design you want and then clear the whols lamp assembly....It would look smooth and make the tails nice and shiny and pretty.
