Fiberglass Enclosure for the Protege5

Yeah I thought about doing this whole completely elaborate setup and painting it, and having these elaborate plexiglass grills built into the tub and everything and it was going to fit over the form you see now and tub out my whole trunk. Well after just making the box you see in the pictures I decided it is WAY TOO much trouble for a first timer to be making all that. So I decided baby steps was the better idea for now. I am about to re-do it and fiberglass two 8's in the back. One on each side of the trunk with a sort of aggressive curve towards the hatch. This way I still have all my trunk space without losing any sound. I also am getting a different amp for them. I will post pictures when I can. Maybe I will do it DIY style and document everything, if I feel like I did a good enough job that is.

i have a high quality head unit and i want high quality sound, not loudness, thats right. a real crisp sound.. and i have two kids so, i want to have my truck space yes. lol
The system I have described will fit all of your needs.
8's are not intrusive or loud but can be very good at reproducing higher sub bass and even midbass that larger woofers simply can't.

really i didn't know that... ha! i learned something today. lol thanks guys..anything else i need to know please tell me.
i was thinking of doing something simlar to ahmads, painting it to match the car..

The other reason to do it the way you did is if you actualy use your trunk. Vinayl, paint, and plexiglass with get the crap kicked out of them by most real world drivers. They just aren't ment to be in a trunk with stuff flopping around.

Yeah a grill, You can buy them form the sub manuifacturer or make one custom.
However, if you have a painted sub box or even one that vinayled, the box itself is going to get beaten up.

Do not paint anything that will be exposed to loose flying objects in the truck. Otherwise it will look like crap within a week. If you want to paint something, do a painted insert like I did with my kick panels. This way the pretty parts are totaly covered and not able to be damaged.

Not so much brakes, but most states have laws about the colors of lights and anything either blue or red is considered a saftey or police color. Red for police, ambulance and fire trucks.

It depends on the state obviously but I have been ticketed for blue lights. I know people that had to have their cars towed for green ones.

thanks
but did you do anything to the truck? i will only ever so often have a stroller back there.. and when we take a road trip i'll have bags back there...

Not yet. The kicks show what I am talking about though. The painted part is hidden under a grill most of th etime so that it can not be damaged. Don't put anything near a painted sub box that you wouldn't slam on your hood and thrash back and forth. Imagin doing this with a stroller or a luggage bag to your hood, the result will be the same to a painted sub box.

oh my ya, i know... i'd hate that... lol

hey heres a question for ya... i found a CR hood, that isn't perfect but its a
B-STOCK HOOD IS A HOOD MADE WITH GRADE A CARBON FIBER, WHEN THIS HOOD WAS MADE IT DIDNT COME OUT PERFECT WHEN FINISHED & BECAME A B-STOCK HOOD. for $1 and shipping of coarse is $175 but that is really cheap for a CF hood don't you think?
