Anybody ever rolled their fenders before? The offset on my current wheels causes my rear wheels to hit the fender if somebody sits in the back. So I need to roll my fender because I hit a pot hole and the tire slammed up in the fender and tore the side wall of the tire......

If anybody has ever rolled a fender before any advice or tips would be very much appreciated!! Pictures would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

Here is my thread explaining what happend: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?p=793605#post793605

i rolled my fenders with a socket wrench, you can use basically anything that won't break to do it. Have a friend hold whatever you use while you back the car up, its that simple...obviously the bigger the gap, the bigger of a "tool" you should use...

i am still a strong advisor of having it professionally done.

but...if you want to do it yourself...then whatever you do...do it on an extremely warm day so that the paint is more maluable....also use a heat gun on low heat to warm up the paint.

again...this is to minimize the risk of pain chipping/cracking.

i didn't heat up my fenders and it wasn't real hot outside when i did mine, it was acctualy in a state of emergency when i had to do it, and it worked out fine, no chipped paint...

paying someone to do this IMO is a waste of money, it seriously took me a whole 2 mins to do it....

Thanks for the tip..yea alot of people tell me to have it professionally done but the place I know of charges $40 a fender so $80 to have the rear done. I feel the fender lip I need to fold back is very small so want to try to do it myself. Do you have pics of the fender after it was done, in other words close up pics of it now?

I was worried about the paint too...

I may sound naive but I honestly have no idea what you mean. I too have a similar problem with my guards rubbing and have been looking at rolling.

Do you mean you hold the wrench on the tyre while the car is rolled back rolling the socket against the fold? Cheers.

Yea I thought you had to use something smooth like a metal pipe or aluminum bat? so it rolls with the tire? a wrench??

hey can you just pinch it down with a wrench?

I have to agree with YP5. I rolled my own fenders and it was a disaster. The paint cracked and chipped, so I had to repair it. The is also a hairline crack in the paint just on the outside of the fender. Sad thing is that is was all for not... ended up being the tire shop's fault - they gave me the wrong offset wheels. Got the right ones and no more rubbing! (bang).

You can actually buy a fender roller or rent one from your local discount tire. They work great. It bolts right to the hub and has all kinds of angle adjustments. I did it on the rears of my MP3, and no more rubbing. They just called it a "fender roller" oddly enough. IT is just a metal arm that bolts to your hub, with almost like a roller skate wheel on the end. JUst make sure you use a heat gun and get the fenders HOT. Otherwise you WILL crack your paint like others have. I have done this on several other cars as well, including my roomates spec v for his 18z, and my bro's millenia to fit 20z. It works great. I hope that helps.

Dont do it in the cold, or roll fast. You SHOULD be able to avoid cracking the paint if you do int in a warm day and slowly roll the bat. :D

Yeach, get the fender roller if you can. It will make your life easier. One of my friend used the baseball bat to roll his fender. I donno how he did it but it works great.

Or you can call some friends who know the bodyshop, usually if they are not busy, they will do it free for you. It just took them 10 minutes to do it and better result. That what happened when I need to roll my fender last time :p

Thanks guys....I don't think anyplaces in Hawaii rent fender rolling machines so I guess I have to either pay $80 to get it done or chance it.....

what about pinching it? that sounds like a good idea, get some bigass pliers and a cloth and just pinch them slowly all the way round

i wanna get mine rolled in the back, but the local shop i went to says the have to cut and repaint (so obviously i left)... anybody in San Diego Cali that knows a shop where they can roll the fenders?

how to on rolling fenders??

hey everyone, i'm pretty new here, but have been reading for a while. is there a how to here on rolling fenders? does anybody know of a website or other forum that have pics or that can answer my questions. thanks!

David

Actually rolling my fenders were really easy. Either wait for a hot day (in fl it is always hot) or take a blow drier and heat up your fender. Jack up your car a little so a baseball bat can fit in between the tire and fender. Wrap the baseball ball in a towel or something so it doesnt scratch your paint (be careful because it does rip). Just stick the bat in and lean down on it slowly. Roll it a little, do the whole fender and re-do it until you have your wanted results.
